Calendar Events / Announcements '16 II / Rebecca
« on: June 22, 2016, 07:00:10 AM »
Just got through watching, "Rebecca".

Some thoughts:

Most people call her Mrs. Danvers.

No one (I believe) ever called 'her' anything but Hoffman (no Miss/Mrs, and certainly not doctor).

Mrs. Danvers is 'sort of' the secondary character of "Rebecca", but Hoffman doesn't come off with anything but a minor 'beep'.

This, I believe, is because we never get to see Rebecca, whereas, we see two much Angelexis.

I've watched "Rebecca" well over 40 times; this time, I watched it for 'x' amount of time after work, it was spread out over 4 nights.

I started thinking that Mrs. Danvers....might 'like' Rebecca.

So, on the DVD, I was watching the extras, it was about Daphne Du Maurier. Seems she also 'liked' women, as well as men.

I can't believe I never picked up on this before....wild. Especially for 1940.

Always love George Sanders.

Current Talk '16 II / Why Do We Hate Certain Characters?
« on: June 08, 2016, 05:29:47 AM »
Why do we hate certain characters? And when I say this, I don't mean every Roger Davis part, and, Barnabas is extremely limited (i.e., if you hate Barn in 1967, you still hate him in 1968, '69).

Once in a while, I'll think of David messing the ye olde bleeder valve. That (and combined with his age), would genuinely make him a sociopath.

Yet, IMHO, we like David...but, not just David, the various incarnations of D. H.

I personally hate Harri/Carrie, but, this is because I loved Amy. (I knew D. Nickerson as Violet, 30 yearsish before I knew her on DS.) I'll never forget the first ep I saw w/DN, I called my eldest daughter to come downstairs, and I said, "Look, you know who that is!!" She couldn't of cared less.

So, again, whoever you vote for, please don't make it based on the actor, but, rather the character.

Patti

P.S., I was trying to think of actor's to 'hate' specific characters, but, in all fairness, David Selby is quite limited, like Barnabas.

P.P.S., you can hate a character which you though was due to bad writing, or directing.

Current Talk '16 II / Sideboard Question

I was on Robservations, there's a pic of Quentin & ________________ (it looks like David, I think he's wearing 'modern' time pjs). It right over a pic of Elizabeth & I'm assuming Jason McGuire.

David? Daniel? Donald? Delilah?

Current Talk '16 II / 2012 Movie Question
« on: June 06, 2016, 05:36:17 PM »
On the top, it says, "DS played for 23 weeks...."

Did it play in Europe? How about anywhere in Asia (I'm assuming not in Pakestan, but, what about Japan or Korea)?

Australia?

Does anyone know how many languages (if any) it was 'dubbed'?

Thanks,

Patti

(to the tune of 'In the Year 2525')

I just replied to MBs post about "Outcast", and, how it didn't seem logical that I could watch it:

a) for FREE
b) BEFORE it was on the network who was paying for the production.

Do we see cable going bye-bye?

I think we'll always have the 4 networks, and maybe 3-5 'syndicated' channels.

What's YOUR opinion?

How many of us have Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Roku, and so many others?

When I'm at work, I can stream my local news for free (the boss pays for Internet).

Dish still doesn't do 'a la cart'.

I really only watch (on a regular to semi-regular basis):

ABC (that's my choice for my local news, and my daughter lives for Thursday nights)
CW (Supernatural)
Freeform (mostly for "The Middle")
TNT (4 eps of Supernatural in morning, and, if I don't have to work & its during school time, I'll watch Bones)

Was semi-regular with Pivot, but they're barely showing any Buffy anymore :(
Up (7th Heaven & Gilmore Girls), but, I've mentioned I'd bought the who series of Gilmore Girls in 'll.

I know most of my family watches cooking shows & some DIY; I'll watch History channel from time to time. I'll watch PBS if Civil War is on (I wonder if PBS will show re-runs of Downton Abbey). Has PBS ever done the whole 'rerun' deal?

Wonder if one of the higher up sydicated channels will eventually buy the rights for reruns (CW)?

How many people think we'll still be watching 'traditional' TV by 2020? And, that's not even correct, because almost all of us remember 'free television' (granted, there were only about 6 channels).

Again, I'm in Robs 1995.

But, even somewhat prior to that, where have alot of the key players been?

In PT, barely any Amy, Daniel, no that much Roger, or Maggie; once Cyrus goes, no more C. Pennock.

Now, 1995, all we have are Barn, Julia, Stokes, Quentin, plus 2 more DBs.

Where have all the other 'main characters' been?

Question, were these peeps under a contract? On a soap, do you get a standard salary, or, (DC folk), is it per part played?

Current Talk '16 I / Mr. Popularity
« on: May 29, 2016, 05:13:51 AM »
Just a question, that I think a few cousins will know....

Who was more 'popular' with the fans (at the current running of DS):

Tom

or

Chris

Chris had a lot more 'face time' than Tom, but, just wanted to know.

I don't think the answer will be able to be correct; Tom was when the show was just starting; Chris when it was going into a BIG new arc.

Current Talk '16 I / "Knock Knock"
« on: May 29, 2016, 05:06:36 AM »
I know on Buffy & Angel, the owner of a home must first invite vampire in.

Does anyone know the first time this 'fact' is put in use?

So, I'm currently in (on the Rob boards) 1995.

Barnabas was still a living Collins when Collinwood was finished. Plus Joshua/Naomi (I think it was Naomi, IRC) who gave Barn the 'Old House'.

If (big little word) he had been welcomed into any of the Collin's estates, would that give him open access to all the houses/cottages/nooks/crannies on the Collins' estate? (Barn just walked into whatever place Crazy Carolyn lives, and he didn't knock).

Why would someone have to invite a vampire in?

I've decided I am absolutely in love with slateblue. I went to profile; can't remember if you can make you name automatically a 'special way'; but, it said I needed to put in my new (or existing) password. I did (2 xs, as needed), but, same message, I needed to add my password??

MB, I see at the bottom: "XHTML" and WAP2 (I think I've seen the WAP2 somewhere else). And still SMF (simple something-something).

What do these stand for?

Thanks!
