Digging through the archives (a.k.a. boxes upon boxes of cassette tapes), I found a 1985 interview I'd conducted with the late Art Wallace, who is credited with story creation and development on Dark Shadows. I've taken a portion of the interview — in which he claims Dan Curtis had the concept for a Gothic soap, but nothing else — and have posted it over at http://www.blogofdarkshadows.com.

I'm just not sure what to expect from her portrayal. Actually, I'm not sure what kind of film we're going to be getting either. There have been so many comments referring to the script as "funny," that I don't know what to make of it. Not even sure why they're setting it in the '70s. I would imagine it's challenge enough transporting the audiences to the 1790s for Barnabas' origin, but then to have to create the 1970s -- well, I'm just trying to "get" it.

Hi All,

I just wanted to let you know that after an extended period with a lack of activity due to personal issues, Blog of Dark Shadows is being regularly updated again.

Later this week, look for an audio interview with the late Art Wallace, who will discuss the period in which DS was created.

To go to the site, just go to http://www.blogofdarkshadows.com.
Thanks,

To celebrate Jonathan Frid's birthday, I've posted the first part of a 1983 audio interview I conducted with him over at http://www.blogofdarkshadows.com. We talk about the start of his career, early roles and his approach to the role of Barnabas Collins.

Hey All,

I'd like to do a piece over at Blog of Dark Shadows on fan thoughts regarding casting of the new Dark Shadows movie. If anyone's interested, please respond with who you would like to see cast in which role and why.

Thanks much!

Their Buffy rights are definitely limited to Joss' screenplay for the movie, and this reboot is going to have nothing to do with the TV series in terms of the core characters.

I don't have a problem with reboots if they're backed by genuinely creative people, such as Johnny Depp and Tim Burton on Dark Shadows, J.J. Abrams and writers Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci on Star Trek, and that sort of thing. While there are too many unknowns to truly judge the Buffy reboot at this point, the credits of those involved are somewhat underwhelming and don't seem to hold great promise. But I'm always hopeful.

Posted three Dark Shadows stories over at Blog of Dark Shadows:

"Vampires don't sparkle, they cast Dark Shadows"

"Tim Burton's Dark Shadows: 1 of 5 Things Fearnet.com is Thankful For"

"Johnny Depp Talks Dark Shadows' Barnabas Collins": This one came from a Boston.com article in which he talks a bit about Barnabas. Not sure how widespread these quotes were.

If anyone comes across Dark Shadows stories, particularly on the new film, please do let me know.

Check out http://www.blogofdarkshadows.com.

Thanks!

Hi Penny,

Thanks! I'm amazed that those old Files magazines still live on. At the time, I was so upset about how cheaply they were thrown together, the publisher electing to take the text provided and turn them into a couple of issues, thus giving a skimpier impression. Still, it seems a lot of people got them.

I just wanted to let everyone know that the first part of Jeff Thompson's guide to the Gold Key Dark Shadows comic books has been posted over at http://www.blogofdarkshadows.com.

I'm not sure if there's anyone who fancies themselves writers out there, but if you have any interest in writing articles for Blog of Dark Shadows, please let me know. Said articles can be actor or character profiles, reviews of particular storylines, comparisons of one version of Dark Shadows to another, etc.

Also thought I'd mention that I posted a short item on Seth Grahame-Smith on the site as well. Just go to http://www.blogofdarkshadows.com

It's a fine line that has to be walked. You don't want to just go in there throwing your weight around, because if they are at least providing links, you don't want them to cut you out completely in response in terms of mentioning articles. But we'll see how big a problem it gets to be.
