Night of the Iguana on DVD
« on: April 30, 2006, 05:50:33 AM »
Got my copy in the mail today from Warner Home Video. It contains the vintage feature "On the Trail of the Iguana" as well as a new feature on John Huston and a couple of theatrical trailers. No mention is made of Grayson in either of these features.  [kaiokn] You'd think they could at least have mentioned her Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations.  :'(

Still, I'm glad to finally have this fine movie available on DVD.

Why those dirty &$@#$~s!  How dare they diss our Grayson!  After all, Grayson got the nomination, not Burton/Gardner/Kerr!

that's likely why . . . their displeasure at being overlooked held a lot of power back in the day and still carries forward no matter who writes and tells them where they can find footage of GH's nomination, prominence at the award show.  .etc etc.  .. there will be more about that in "the book". . .

Big review of the whole Tennessee Williams DVD set in today's LA Times. At least that reviewer mentioned Grayson and her Academy nomination.  ;D

Sorry, I don't have a link, but I'll bet Midnite will come up with one.  ;)

My buddy Glenn over at DVD Savant has a good review of the Night of the Iguana disc- even singles out Grayson for a mention.

I didn't put him up to it either. He's not a Dark Shadows fan and I don't think he's ever seen an episode...

Thanks for the prompt report, Bette and all!

I read in an advertisement that the Iguana disc is supposed to include "archival commentary from John Huston."  Is that an audio track you access from a menu, or do they mean film footage included in the feature on him?

If you look carefully, you can catch glimpses of Grayson (no good shot of her and I don't think you really see her face clearly) in the "On the trail of the Iguana" featurette.

BTW, John Huston went on record saying that he should've filmed Iguana in color.  Some years back the film was colorized for TV, and they actually got Grayson's hair color right!!!

There is no commentary track on the DVD, so I suppose they are referring to the comments Huston makes on the two featurettes.  Unless of course there are Easter Eggs. I hate those blasted things. Never can find them.  :P

Hi Fans,

for anybody who didn't find it--our local Tower Records has it on sale this week for $14.99!  I just purchased it!

Check the Tower (maybe Virgin too) in your area to see if you can get a deal!

Good Luck,

G.

Damn...I missed this thread. ::)

My concise review: Nicely done; although I still dislike the cover a bit...
However I do like the general layout/design of the back cover, interestingly enough. I just have this pet peeve about including all the main characters...omitting the one that was nominated for an academy award, and was a vital part of the story, well...(I know all the reasons why that was done the way it was done - I'm just goofy like that.)

But I CAN"T WAIT to read the full story behind that and *more* in J99's upcoming Bio of that divine redhead! [squeal]

[cough] ...Anyway, the movie is still top notch and highly recommended [thumb]
