Once again proving the adage that "sex sells" - or in this case, brings in substantial enough ratings - even IF the sex being depicted sometimes involves the over-60 set.  [hall2_wink]

LOL! It amazes me that there are people who do not believe "older" people have a sex life.  Even when I was a teenager and into my twenties, I knew this to be true from knowing "older" people in my life.

Granny porn.  [hall2_grin]

I was commenting to a friend recently that I think the reports of low ratings during the actual initial episode broadcasts (also mentioned in the article) shouldn't be surprising with this particular show. I suspect that a fair number of viewers watch it on demand or watch some of the later rebroadcasts. If you've got kids at home, 9:00 pm on Sundays is probably not the ideal time to have this on in your house.

And there are probably also people who Tivo it or who record it with some other DVR system - and those viewings are actually factored it as well nowadays so long as the show is watched within a certain amount of days after recording. (Though I forget exactly how many days it is...)

I've only been able to see it later than when it's broadcast too, due to hectic workload lately.
I just wanted to comment that, as one of the "younger folk" on the board.....I luv it. [bwwaaahaahaa]
Then again, if anyone has seen any of my B&J fanfic (in other words, supporting the notion that people middle age and my parents age on do have bedroom relations,) this shouldn't surprise anyone...

evilly yours,

There's an interesting piece in today's Boston Herald by one of their columnists: "Sex Doesn't Get Old for HBO's Seniors".

Maybe I'm mistaken, but wasn't the spirit of the piece supposedly to present a positive view of sexually active seniors and to support the notion that senior sex is "not at all horrifying, as you might expect"? If so, why sum up by including a phrase like "nonrevolting coupling," as in "it’s refreshing to see at least one example of dignified, nonrevolting coupling by those in their sunset years"? Doesn't that sort of defeat the seemingly intended purpose of the article?  [hall2_undecided]  Although on second thought, given this IS the Boston Herald, I suppose one shouldn't really be surprised they felt they had to throw that in.  [hall2_rolleyes]

My husband and I have finally caught "Tell me you love me" fever and are loving it.  We watched most of the episodes all in a row thanks to On Demand so we were very disappointed when we ran out of shows and have to wait for the next one.  I have to admit being a little shocked over David Selby's sex scene but no more shocked than I was over the other graphic sex scenes on the show.  Ok, maybe a little but I think that's just because I've met the man and never would have imagined him doing  a scene like that before.  Good for him.

CBS Sunday Morning ran a story this morning on a recent study of sexuality among seniors. It makes brief mention of TMYLM, and it's arguably a better piece of writing than the BH piece.  [hall2_rolleyes]

Jane Alexander, Selby's onscreen wife in Tell Me, also appears in the new film Feast of Love. In the film, Alexander
& 60ish Morgan Freeman play an "item".

Right on!

PS But I insist that my parents never had sex.
NEVER!
That's gross!
YUCK!!!!

There's a podcast from Showbiz Tonight on the CNN web site whining commenting about the amount of sex in several current series, including Tell Me You Love Me. Clips include footage of David Selby and Jane Alexander from the show:

Remember, kids, the Internet is for porn. That's why the Net was born.  [hall2_grin]

Well, back in the Dark Ages when the Usenet groups began, practically from the first instant the first binary groups were created, there were ones that were solely devoted to sharing pornographic binaries. Not that I would have ever subscribed to such groups or would I have ever downloaded/reassembled such things. Perish the thought, of course! But that's what I've been told[b003]

Nowadays, of course, no one needs to download/reassemble binaries at all because they can just go to a Web site and right click/download more porn than any one person could ever hope to have the time to watch in one lifetime. My, how the Internet has evolved.  ;D

Though speaking of the Dark Ages on the Internet, I actually remember how exciting it was when fans first began sharing binaries of DS photos on Usenet and text-only based BBs. And then how even more exciting it was in the mid-90s when the first DS Web sites began to spring up with the ability to display actual pictures in a browser. Wow - that seems like such a long time ago - and just look how far we've come. Back then, no one would have dreamed the Internet would become what it is today. And if it continues to evolve as it has, god only knows what it will be like in another 10 years...

God - who but the very few of us even remember the programs uuencode and uudecode or that people actually had to use them before browsers/newsreaders decoded binaries automatically for us?

You reminded me of what it was like back in 1991 or so when I first had access to the internet.  I couldn't post anything as my access was from work but even I can recognize and appreciate how far the internet has come.  I heard about the various DS websites from DS fans living in New York City at the time and tried to visit the sites whenever I could.
