Oh My God Angelique! It's EXTREMELY obvious in this episode that she does not love Barnabas at all. She knows he's dying but her jealousy prevents her from letting him have peace in his final hours by spending it with Josette.

That being said I loved the look of horror on her face when she appeared in the door.

The end of the world may well have arrived.  I can find no other way to explain the fact that, although Vicky behaved in an exceptionally imbecilic fashion today, I felt a certain amount of sympathy for her.  During her conversation with Josette, I thought about her friendship with Maggie, and remembered scenes between Vicky and Maggie.  And now Vicky was talking with this woman who looked exactly like Maggie.  I just can't entirely blame Vicky for doing something foolish to try to save Josette's life.

Once again, Josette is wonderful and Angelique is horrible.  Josette may be wrong about who the witch is, but she is selfless and fearless in her endeavor to save Barnabas.  Meanwhile, Angelique pretends to Barnabas that Josette can be saved if Barnabas keeps his mouth shut about the identity of the witch - but she knows that Josette is doomed by the curse, because Josette loves Barnabas.  And if Angelique can't save Barnabas from the curse, then she certainly can't save Josette, even if she wanted to.  If I had a nickel for every lie that Angelique told, I could bankroll a whole new Dark Shadows series.

What does she feel for him, then?  I'm not saying that it's love - but I'd like to know what it is.  Obsession is a nice word to cover the whole thing - but what fuels the obsession?  Just sort of wondering.

Yeah, obsession is a good word for it. She wants to possess him, maybe because she loved him once but hates the fact that he rejected her. Once she made the decision to use lethal force to win him she stopped loving him.

Fixation or infatuation often are slapped with the label of "love"... it's probably more common in real life than anything you could call actual love.    Often it's not so much about the other person, but more about casting that person in a role (perfect mate?) in the perfect life one expects to have, or feels he/she deserves.    Ang has some "movie" playing in her head, some life she's trying to make happen, but we never find out exactly what it is.

Barnabas must have been really "impressive" in Martinique.    Maybe she saw strength and serenity, someone who was "better" than she, and maybe if she can get him, then she must be on his "level", and not the mass of paranoia and desperation that she really is.     None of it conscious of course.

I like that.  It fits.  Anybody want to take a crack at what movie is playing in Angelique's head?

Why would a french countess have any influence over anyone in the newly independent  U.S.?

I liked the doctor in this episode.

Poor Barnabas, unable to say anything about Angelique, it's quite heroic actually.  [hall2_cool]

It's a good thing Barnabas's illness took place in the eighteenth century rather than now, otherwise Angelique would have had no way to explain what happened to him. I wonder how she would have covered her tracks then?

I wish Josette would have found out Angelique was the witch, I would have really loved to see the two of them have it out!
Barnabas to little Sarah's ghost: "I forbid you to leave! I beg you to stay!"

When Natalie escorted the doctor downstairs, I wondered if she was planning to slip him some money over and above his fee.

Of course, Angelique would have won! But she won anyway, so a confrontation between them at this time would just hasten Josette's death. I agree, Sunny it would have been fun to watch them have it out, though! [hall_grin]

I think Angelique loved Barnabas, but it was the wrong kind of love. Indeed, it was more like an obsession, or even lust. She wanted to possess him, and selfishly only cared about herself.  [witch]

I am glad that Vicki tried to warn Josette of her fate. I would have done the same thing.  [hall2_wink]
