Gosh, the cannery! I don't think we ever hear about it again. I remember how big a deal it was in the early days of the show. It would have been interesting to hear more about the good people of Collinsport and their relationship with their, um, overlords, but DC veered off into the supernatural and that was that.

We never did hear anything more about it, did we?  And didn't the Collinses have other financial activities as well?  Didn't they also own a fleet of fishing boats to supply the canneries?  Didn't they even build vessels?  All of it vanished and we never heard again about how they made their moola.  The next time we heard anything was in the 12DS when Barnabas helped relaunch the family business in opposition to AngieBay.

I don't recall it being mentioned in specifics...

but it was the established background source of the family's income and wealth. and the financial hardships that plagued the family during the early episodes ceased to be a factor after the show went supernatural as well. or at least they were never mentioned. the last time it was hinted at was when Roger was looking at his "rich cousin from England" as a potential source of income in 1967.

I don't recall if the cannery was mentioned explicitly but let's not forget Louis Edmonds' frequent absences were always explained by Roger being in Boston or Bangor on "business trips".

so the family business always remained something of a background presence.

What about the 'ship' (can't remember if it was in a bottle) which David has? I think it's mentioned as a former, current, or shall-be type ship.

So funny; I saw this thread while watching Sam, Dean, ((Rufus)), Bobby and Grandpa Mitch Pileggi on Supernatural. (This was at the cannery!)

By 1968ish, how much 'fishing' was done by a few 'boats', wasn't most done on a large scale? (Which, of course, within less than 20 years, would lead into the 'catching dolphins while fishing with large nets.)

That ship was mentioned in the '70 haunting story line with Gerard/Daphne and seemingly had some importance, but then it quickly vanished.  It was never mentioned in the 1840/41 plot.

David's model ship was not in a bottle and was called the Java Queen. Later it figured prominently in the 1970 lead-up to the 1840 story, and not in a good way.

It seemed that The Java Queen was going to play a big part in the 1840 story but it just isn't mentioned. Maybe our fearless leader DC didn't want to spring for the expense of that kind of set. The ship never shows up, nor does its crew of zombie pirates without lines.
