Club members ... don't they also get a free display case for them after they buy them all?

It's available to club members for $1 after a year of membership, regardless of whether they've purchased any additional bobbleheads or not.  And according to their website, it's not available to non-members, or at least it isn't right now.

Current Talk '06 II / Re: DS Revival Series -- Sigh
« on: July 14, 2006, 05:48:48 AM »
Agree, IN SPADES, about the OTT vampire makeup.  That stuff has become as over-used as the blacked-out eye effect for Witches casting spells on TV.  Those blacked-out eyes always make me think of this terrible film Robert Fuest directed in the 1970s, The Devil's Rain.  Ernie Borgnine plays Asmodeus.  Need I say more??

Gothick, I'm not familiar with "The Devil's Rain" so I looked it up... IMDb has a link to photographs, and there was William Shatner with pure black eyes.  Now there's the stuff of nightmares!

Anyway, I can't recall ever seeing black eyes on a witch until the first season of Buffy when Mrs. Madison was introduced in, appropriately, "The Witch".  It was consistently used on the show whenever a witch channeled great power (i.e. Amy Madison [the daughter] and the very powerful Willow), especially if it was a dark great power.  And occasionally, non-witches on Buffy had black eyes too, such as the demon played by Joel Grey.  But getting back to your comments, has it really been all that over-used?  Yes, Charmed ripped off the black-eyes effect from Buffy (so what else is new?), but by the time we saw pitch black eyes on the 2004 DS' Angelique, I thought it was still a creepy and cool effect.   8)

Don't know if I have ever mentioned it before, but I loathe Amanda Harris.

Really?   [laughing1]

Glitzgal, is there any way these can be viewed on Windows Media Player?

If you don't mind my answering, no, you need a flash player for YouTube vids.  Macromedia Flash is pretty much the Windows standard.

Current Talk '06 II / Re: Holidays and Birthdays
« on: July 13, 2006, 05:25:25 AM »
In one of the pre-Barnabas shows Carolyn mentions that kids used to call Liz a witch and play tricks on them on Halloween.  I think that was the only mention of Halloween on the show.

And when asked by Madame Findlay if she'd ever seen a ghost, Amy answers that she once saw someone in a ghost costume on Halloween.  Uh huh.

As for other holidays:

Vicki told David that the first Christmas tree was in Maine.

Roger informs Liz that he came home during holidays from school so he knows more about her marriage to Paul than she thinks.

Frank Garner says that an old list of Collinwood servants' wages looks like a Christmas list for the Waldorf Astoria.

There are 3 references to Christmas at the time of Laura's arrival, seen in December, 1966.  In addition to the one BuzzH mentioned, Joe informs Maggie that he and Carolyn are no longer on each others' Christmas card lists.  And Maggie tells Laura that Roger could pull off the best Scrooge imitation that season.

Also, Charity lies that the brandy Magda smells on her breath is from brandy-filled chocolates that Judith received as a Christmas gift.  And we first saw this in July!

Also from Leviathans: Carolyn reminds David in the antique shop that Christmas and birthdays are coming up; David mentions to Carolyn that Brewster's is open late til Christmas, and that he's thinking about making a list.  It was Nov/Dec 1969.

Julia notices that a photo of Quentin from Christmastime in the 1890s is missing from its album.

PT Quentin received gloves as a Christmas present.

James Forsythe gave the lottery vase to Brutus as a Christmas gift, or something.   :-

Hey, BtB, did you know that he's in the movie's original trailer?  It's on TCM's site; click "watch a trailer" on this page.   He shows up just before the halfway point, though the other agent is doing the talking.  8)

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Re: testing attachments / Image Theft
« on: July 09, 2006, 06:33:43 PM »
Please do not attach images unless you have the consent of the owner/creator of the image.

This goes without saying for most posters, and it certainly isn't the first time the mods have pointed it out, but images downloaded from another website and displayed on the Forums, whether as an attachment or in a post, must be done with the written permission of the image owner.  You may otherwise be guilty of image theft, which is more insidious than bandwidth theft (using IMG tags to refer to an image on another site without authorization from the site owner, and also known as direct linking) because in most cases the owner of the image is unaware that a theft has occurred, but in both cases the images are subject to removal by the Forum administrators. Image theft is a copyright infringement, and posters who indulge in this illegal acitivity despite repeated warnings from the mods are jeopardizing their posting priveleges.

If you'd like to show readers an image that's on someone else's site, the best way is to provide a link to the page on which the image appears in context, and the best Netiquette involves linking to that site's home page.

If anyone has questions about this, please don't hesitate to ask.  Thanks!

*** DS MERCHANDISE NEWS UPDATES

--- SHADOWGRAM PREMIERE ANNOUNCEMENT - NEW DVD UPDATE
In November, MPI Home Video will be releasing a special, single-disc DVD for $19.98 called "Dark Shadows Bloopers & Treasures." This is a 2½-hour collection of bloopers, outtakes, music videos, promos, and vintage game show appearances by the DS actors. There also is a new featurette with actress Lara Parker (Angelique the witch) entitled "Dark Shadows In Salem," where she visits the actual sites of the witch trials and ties-in with her new novel "Dark Shadows - The Salem Branch." The DVD will be available early for fans at the DS 40th Anniversary event in August.

--- SHADOWGRAM PREMIERE ANNOUNCEMENT - BARNABAS EPISODES DVDS UPDATE

MPI tells SG it is using the title "Dark Shadows - The Beginning" for the 206 early, pre-Barnabas episodes. SG previously announced that plans call for them to be released on DVD in 2007. They will be identified as Collections 1-6.

The title "Collector's Series," which was utilized when those episodes were issued on VHS video, will not be used for the DVDs. These 6 DVD releases, to be issued throughout 2007, initially will be available exclusively through MPI.

--- LARA PARKER'S NOVEL "DS: THE SALEM BRANCH" - PUBLICATION UPDATE
Lara's new novel "Dark Shadows: The Salem Branch" is officially published on July 18 and should be available in stores approximately that date. SG print issues and this SG Updates List have announced and reported about this 288-page trade paperpack being published by Tor Books. Retail price is $12.95 U.S. / $17.95 Canada. The novel picks up immediately after the end of Lara's first DS novel, "Angelique's Descent." Written in Lara's lyrical, intricate style, there are 2 inter-connected stories. One is set in 1971 Collinsport, as Barnabas finds himself irresistibly drawn to a woman who looks identical to Angelique, yet has a very different personality. The other story steps back 3 centuries to explore the life and death of Miranda du Val, the character Lara also portrayed during DS' brief flashback to the 1690s. Miranda is caught up in the hysteria and terror of the Salem Witch Hunt and Trials. In "The Salem Branch," Lara brings Barnabas into that world and that time - and also brings new twists to his own life in 1971 Collinsport.See SG List Update # 152 (June 26) for details about Lara's upcoming book signing events in San Diego and Burbank, CA. More signings are being planned; SG will announce details and SG print issues will report on these events. Visit Lara's official website to read the first chapter: www.laraparker.com

--- The DS Festival asks SG to announce that 2 items now are sold out: Autographed copies of the book on Dan Curtis' career, "Produced & Directed by Dan Curtis", and the limited edition DS coin purse.

This fact-based TV movie was one of Dan's final projects before his recent death. He produced and directed the drama based on Washington journalist Morton Kondracke's memoir about his wife Milly's battle against Parkinson's Disease. Before its 3-13-05 premiere, Dan said, "Everyone involved hopes the movie helps increase awareness that money is needed to find cures for neurological diseases."

*** ALEXANDRA MOLTKE ISLES' NEW DOCUMENTARY BROADCAST - UPDATE

SG Online Update #152 announced her new film "The Healing Gardens of New York City" will be seen on PBS. Plans call for it to be shown on WNET-NY as Part 5 of 8 parts of a series called "Reel New York." Of the parts scheduled to air in July, it is the only one listed which is a one-hour show.
