It was very sad to hear of his passing. I saw them for the first time in '82 with Kenny Jones on drums, (very cool for me since I was a Small Faces fan, but Keith was incredible). I have always been impressed with the smooth style Entwistle had.

Also we musnt forget there was a Granny Entwistle in the Barnabas Collins by Dan Ross. (FWIW)

Pat Paulsen! Wow Bob there's a blast from the past! It's funny you mention him, the wife and I were watching an episode of the Monkees the other week where Mr. Paulsen does his politician stint. Great stuff.

Welcome Lindsey!,
Reading your post and Stokes' reply reminds me of myself when I started really getting into DS. Like you and Stokes I was around 17 when I got into it. I barely remember my brother and sister watching first time around. I can definately relate to going to schoole explaining the show to friends and having them give you the dear in the headlights look. The teachers were hip to it because alot of them watched when they were kids.

Enjoy the board, there are some very cool people here.

Your right midnite. Donna McKechine was on Hulabaloo and can be seen on the home video tapes or laser discs of the show which were released by none other than...

MPI

I will have to pull out my discs and identify actual volumes on which she appeares, (but after tomorrow. We are having Mothers Day tomorrow and I have a million things to do to be ready).

Since were on this subject, I seem to remember reading that Elizabeth Montgomery was a fan of DS also.

Trask exercises her.
My understanding is after she was done with it she sold to NBC and they used it as a stage curtain on Rowan & Martins Laugh-In. That pattern is a true blast from the past!

Two Words

Dipity Dew.

I remember my sister putting that stuff on her hair to straighten it out. Once she put it on and went into my brothers room when he had his black light on, (we were groovin to somthin' cool like Amboy Dukes). We both died laughing as her whole head was glowing purple!

Apparently that stuff was very reactive.

I agree that Carolyn's hair was pretty in the early episode, but the nicest hair award would have to go to Vicki. What a beautiful mane!

Hello everyone!,

I knew Bob was going to post pictures of the weekend so I didnt post about it on purpose because I didnt want to steal his thunder. Besides I havent been on line much lately because the weather is turning for the better and there is so much to do outside.

A little insight into how this all went down. I was sitting home last Saturday night when around 10:30 - 10:45PM the phone rings. Typically we dont get calls that late, (Olivia goes to sleep round 8:00 so most people dont call after 9:00),  so I answered immediately thinking it was some sort of family emergency. All of the sudden this voice on the other end says, "Why arent you here with us?" My initial reaction was to say who the @#%** is this, (thank God I didnt). Then it dawned on me, this isnt a crank call, but a voice from the past, but I still couldnt place it. So minus the profanity I asked who is this? I was floored when I realized it was Bob, and he wasnt far away. We put together plans to meet on Sunday half way between our place and Mary's place which put us in Laurel MD.

So on Sunday afternoon, Linda, Olivia and me pulled our hats down over eyes and headed for those Southern skies, (I believe Bob Dylan said that). It was a great experience seeing Bob as the last time I saw him was at the Halloween party in 1996. I have known Guy since 1991 and havent seen him since probably around the same time and I had never had the pleasure of meeting Mary, who like most DS fans I know was very cool. It was a real pleasure meeting her.

And yes the dinner we had was full of remincing. As Bob said time does fly particularly as we get older, (a doctor of mine proved this mathmatically by saying that as we get older a year as a measure of time, is less a part of our life. For example Olivia who will be 3 in August, one year of  her life is 1/3. For me one year is 1/35 of my life and I wont do this calculation on Linda because divulging a womans age is rude, besides if I did and she sees it she'll kick my a**).

I was glad to see that both Bob and Guy looked basically the same since the last time I saw them, unfortunately time hasnt been as kind to me.

Anyway we all chatted about past good times, some of our favorite DS moments and at least on Linda's and my end we got to know Mary a little better. It was very amusing when Guy brought up my fan profile from TWODS which he saw years ago, (1986-87 if memory serves),  and commented that I looked like a pretty mean guy. Although I was pretty helly looking, (long hair and all) mean wasnt a word which I would have used to describe myself, (freaky and wild yes but mean no). We all got a good laugh out of that and again it made me wonder about how much time has past.

I hope we will be able to do something like this again. Linda is already talking about arranging a Chicago trip so watch out Bob we may all end up on your doorstep one day! Until then we are looking forward to the Halloween trip this year. I think our budget will permit and the job I am working on will be winding up around that time so we should be able to make that happen.

I believe someone commented on how cute Olivia is and I will add that pictures do not do her justice she really is a cutie, (thank God she has Linda's looks and not mine).

Bob, thanks again for thinking of us while you were in town. It was really great seeing you again, you, Guy and Mary made both Linda and my weekend.

One of the things I found fascinating about Julia's new dew was that it was very similar to the one that Roger Daltrey of The Who was wearing a few years eariler.

I had the great fortune of seeing Frid here in Baltimore in 1986, (while on tour with Arsenic & Old Lace), at the Enoch Pratt Library doing readings of EAP.

I had mentioned in an earlier post that my fathers construction company rennovated the crypt at Westminster Hall, (poes burial place) back in the eigties. While Poe's actual burial place is unknown, (the marker at Westminster Hall is a memorial only, he is buried elsewhere on the property), it was a fascinating project.

The fact that DS borrowed from Poe's work was one of the things that attracted me to the show.

Does anyone know if The Pit & The Pendulum movie with Vincent Price & Barbra Steele is available on Home Video or DVD? I tried to get it a couple of years ago and found that it was out of print. A friend of mine had it on Laser Disc, but that was an earlier release which hasnt been available for at least seven years.

Current Talk '02 I / Re: Squeaky Bats
« on: April 16, 2002, 01:57:27 AM »
Interesting topic!

I grew up in the country, "out in the sticks to be exact" and have many bat stories!

My family raised chickens during WW II as a second income, (my grandfather was a school teacher). On the property was a barn which was infested with bats! We would climb to the highest loft, (approximatey 30' off grade) and watch them nest.

Yes they do hang by thier feet when they roost, but in most cases were not the hideous looking things with glowing eyes we see on TV. The one around our place looked like mice with tiny pig shaped ears, pretty plain.

However watching them fly is really wild. We had a pool which was located on the woods edge. When the pool light was turned on the bats would swoop and drink from the pool. I remember on time specifically in July '88 that there were tiny, (baby) bats actually flying pretty tamely like a humming bird flying circles, at the waters level. Bats do squeak and their wings make a fluttery, flappy sound.

I have always founding bats sort of intimidating, but have never had a dangerous experience.

Just a little reminiscing.

Midnite,
It is a funny scene isnt it? You never know for sure, whether it was strictly coincidental or deliberate fun. There was some intensity on Don's part in that scene.

As Robert Plant says in Stairway To Heaven, "TEXT[... it makes me wonder.]
