I always wondered why Flora needed a secretary, especially since there are no other visible servants, other than Samantha, at Collinwood. RT Flora would definitely have needed a secretary, to do the busy work on Flora's literary empire but PT Flora doesn't seem to do all that much. Other than hand wringing and disposing of the occasional pesky dead body.

([pointing-up]  Well, I guess we're suppose to believe that Flora had all sorts of correspondences from other wealthy women and/or entities that she keeps in touch with regularly, so she needed a secretary to help her with that. Though if those people had been smart, they would have believed all the rumors about the Collins family and written Flora off years ago.  [b003])

I think it was Samantha the nurse who said that the pay was better at Collinwood than anywhere else, so perhaps that was true for Stella as well.

([pointing-up]  Probably. And who knows if news of Stella supposedly leaving her employ ever got past the village? Given the reputation of Collinwood, it's not hard to imagine that villagers wouldn't have sought to become Stella's replacement - but if people outside the village had known, they may have shown up at Collinwood to apply. Though chances are Flora or someone else would have sent them away even if they had.)
