DS Alum In Classic Commercial
« on: November 20, 2015, 10:03:18 PM »
A classic game show network called BUZZR recently started in my area and it runs game shows from the '60s, '70s and the '80s. Today I was curious what they were showing this afternoon and it turned out to be an early '60s installment of I've Got A Secret. I can't say the installment or the secrets were particularly captivating, but imagine my surprise when Peter Turgeon (Woodard #3) showed up in one of show sponsor's ads for the Polaroid 10 Second Camera. He played the father in a family who had just purchased the camera, and it was a hoot to see him show up from out of the blue. But then, he was a NY actor back then, and IGAS was produced in NY, so I suppose almost any NY actor is apt to show up in any of the ads.  [easter_wink]

Unfortunately they didn't show a year during the closing credits, but clues to the year and even the month are that during the course of the show they mentioned that Thanksgiving was coming up soon and that guest Peggy Cass was starring in a series called The Hathaways. I looked up that show on IMDb and it only ran the '61-'62 season, so one can pretty much presume the installment of IGAS was from November of 1961.

I loved The Hathaways when I was 7. Caught a clip of it online and it was quite dreadful. Sorry, Charlie, Candy and especially Enoch.

Did it feature a chimp? I have this memory of Peggy Cass and a chimp.

Three chimps. The aforementioned Charlie, Candy and Enoch, also known as the Marquis chimps. Peggy and her long suffering husband, Jack Weston, were the parental guardians of said chimps in a typical sitcom small town. One episode focused on Candy's tonsils. Not exactly Noel Coward. At least it took three to do it. And chances are that they were better behaved on set than Roger Davis.

Of that I've no doubt!  [nodassent]  And luckily for Peter Turgeon, he was on DS before RD ever came on the scene.  [wink2]
