Testing. 1, 2, 3... / PLEASE READ:  "Last Edit by..."
« on: November 17, 2002, 09:15:19 PM »
Hi guys,

I'll soon be turning on the feature that indicates at the bottom of a message when it was modified and by whom.  I hesitated to do it before now cuz it didn't seem necessary, but despite requests for everyone to simply look over their own submitted messages after the system automatically loads them anyway (see Bandwidth Saving Measures on Current Talk), I find I'm still modifying a great deal of messages.  So, if my name or dom's appears at the bottom of your messages, the most common reason was to remove a large amount of blank space that others would have to scroll past in order to keep reading, such as this...

Are you still with me? ;) Other reasons a moderator might've modified your message(s) are faulty YaBB codes, unwelcome smilies [I asked MB to change the 8) smiley code to something other than 8 and ) but with all the other work needed on the forum it's not a priority at this time], to attribute a quote to its author, to add spacing, or to add a Spoiler warning/icon.  I think it bears repeating that the mods DON'T edit the content in messages unless we TELL you about it and are able to refer to a guideline for the reason.

BTW, if you modify your own messages after they're posted (don't we all?), this will also be reflected at the bottom.

Thanks!

Current Talk '02 II / Marvelous in MAME
« on: November 11, 2002, 06:04:26 AM »
I hope ProfStokes and victoriawinters had as much fun as I did at Mame.  I'm looking forward to reading your reactions and reports, ladies, on everything from the play and Selby's performance to meeting him afterwards.  Did he come out to the lobby to meet you?  (He said the backstage area was too small.  They saw the afternoon show yesterday, btw, whereas MsCriseyde and I attended in the evening, as did our friend VampiRich as well as Marcy Robin, Kathy Resch, and their friend Pam.)

I'll write more about it when I have a chance, but for now I'll just say that his singing blew me away, his energy on stage and when he met with his fans was an incredible sight to behold, and to paraphrase a friend, ohmygodhewassogorgeous.

He mentioned that LP and KLS attended Friday's performance, and that Johnny Karlen had also come to see him!

The entrance to the chat will appear at around the start time and can be found at the bottom of the Info Center on the forum's home page.

When you arrive in the room, try clicking "Reload" to bring up the chat dialogue.  To participate, just type into the white area at the bottom of your screen and click Enter [once].

Hope to see you there!

Current Talk '02 II / OT:  Joking
« on: November 01, 2002, 07:05:59 PM »
This is just a friendly reminder for everyone that when you're making a joke, can you please make it obvious that it's a joke?  Readers don't have the benefit of seeing how you look when you're saying it, and unless you're Jerry Seinfeld it's not a good idea to assume that everyone will know it's a joke simply because you're the author.  We've had some problems on the boards that began as simple misunderstandings.

Also, consider feelings and reputations before you click "Post".  Nobody likes to have their messages removed, and the mods would prefer to never have to remove any.

And now that I've said this, please don't make me eat my words by going overboard, LOL.

Current Talk '02 II / No DS for 3 weeks???!!!
« on: October 31, 2002, 09:27:15 PM »
After Nov. 22, DS fans will be subjected to 3 straight weeks of pre-emptions, and possibly another 2 soon after.  SciFi's schedulebot shows that DS won't be shown at all during the Thanksgiving week (Nov. 25 thru Nov. 29), and this morning ShadowGram is reporting the following additional pre-emptions:

Dec. 2 thru 6
Dec. 9 thru 13

Dec. 23 thru 27
Dec. 30, 31, Jan. 1, and possibly the rest of that week

This is nuts.  Does anyone have SciFi's addys handy?

Calendar Events / Announcements '02 II / VIDEOSCOPE mag's new DS cover
« on: October 30, 2002, 07:54:17 AM »
Here's a scan of the cover from the Fall, 2002 VIDEOSCOPE magazine, in which KLS is interviewed by two fans from the original run.  The article is 6+ pages, and KLS demonstrates her usual frankness about her DS experiences.  The magazine is showing up on newsstands this week.

Today's LA Times dedicates a 1/4 page to Dennis Patrick in its obituary section, p. B13.  Unfortunately, it's not online, and there's an error regarding his role on DS, but it's a lovely tribute nonetheless.

(Thanks, Bette!)

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Resetting forum clock for DST
« on: October 27, 2002, 08:57:04 PM »
Since the forum is on GMT, there's no allowance for Daylight Saving's Time, so if you've changed your clocks in your area of the country you have 1 more to take care of!  Click Profile, then scroll down to Preferences and add an additional hour to the Time Offset.

If you've never set your forum clock to reflect the time in your area, cousins in the East need an offset of -5  and in the West it's -8.

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Witchy smilies
« on: October 21, 2002, 09:27:57 PM »
Raineypark has been asking oh-so-politely for witch smilies, so in honor of Halloween there are now 2 to choose from.  (As you can see, I'm not big on the green warty face.)  Unfortunately, these 2 newest smilies aren't linked to any emoticon pages in the Help files, so you'll need to insert them into your post as images.

This
Code: [Select]

will give you this smiley:

Ditto with this

Have fun!
