first time i ever wanted to see Mame!

To be honest, I was skeptical about how much I'd enjoy the 3-hour play since Mame isn't a favorite of mine either, and despite receiving 2nd billing I knew Selby's role wasn't large.  But I was pleasantly surprised to find that time flew by and that I enjoyed it all so much.  And like ProfStokes, I still catch myself singing a few of the songs.  The credit goes to this production-- the performances were outstanding, and some situations were handled very humorously.  (I'm dying to find out what happened during the performance that ProfStokes saw in the manicure scene involving Mame and Beauregard; we saw Selby laughing obviously under the face towel and drape.)  Apparently [composer] Jerry Herman had attended the opening night performance, and I'm sure he was quite pleased with it.

And then there's the Selby factor:  His was a standout performance, and who knew he was such a fabulous singer?  His voice was so clear and his energy so high that, as ProfStokes said, he could be heard over the chorus, and we're talking about an unusually large cast for a play, at least so I thought.  The theater was quiet when he first appeared on stage, unlike during the matinee, but there was some yaying going on during his curtain call.  His smile instantly widened; I think he heard us... er, them. ;)  Oh yes, and his costumes-- I was especially fond of the jodhpurs (thanks, Bette) and black riding boots that he had on when kneeling to propose to the title character.  Of course there was also the obligatory white suit of the Southern plantation owner which his tall, slender frame wore wonderfully.

Producer Suzy Stokey was SO pleasant, and Selby was extremely gracious and friendly when greeting us after the play.  Because we were in an accessible part of the lobby, others wandered over to speak to him too, but he saved the best for us and that was a thrill (though actually, it was MsCriseyde that he was excited to see).  I've spoken to him in autograph lines before, but it was much different to be introduced to him (thank you, sweetie!), and for anyone that has never had the pleasure of gaining his attention, when he speaks to you his eyes look intently at you, all blue and sparkly and... what were we talking about again?  Oh yes, I do remember babbling something to him about how he's not supposed to have so much fun up there, which made him laugh and talk more about how he enjoyed doing the play.  Here's some fabulous news-- he said he's taking tap and singing lessons to help prepare for the future musicals that ProfStokes told us about.  Oh, and did I mention that he looked GREAT??!!

There were a couple of great poses that he did for ShadowGram that I hope came out well for Marcy.

Okay, this may be sacreligious but---

-- does David look YOUNGER or is it the theatrical make-up? Or are my eyes still out of focus?

He REALLY looks young--and really good-- in all these recent pix.

His hair was dyed a very light brown. It actually looks darker in a lot of the photos than it really was, and some of the gray is still visible.

As for the makeup, it looked to me like he had wiped it all off, and I was up in his face. ;)

This is the second time I've seen him following a performance when he was really on his mark and he knew it too, and he just positively glows . . . or maybe his face was just reflecting Midnite's glow and my glow. LOL

The color looks good on him.

It must have been a combination of feeling confident and having gorgeous women by his side! He looks good enough to eat.

I believe it's called "afterglow."  According to Sheenasma, I, Minja, am an authority on Selby Afterglow! ;)

Thanks so much for sharing what had to have been a very special night.  I would have loved to have been there.  Everyone has a glow about them.

We can hope he does a musical play in the N.E. area for us on the East Coast.

Thanks once again to all.

LOL. The slut slit? That dress has them on both sides.

I was trying this dress on when I was at home over the summer. My mother likes it. My father finds it a tad scandalous, which probably means I am doing something right. ;)

I got several compliments on that dress. I may just have to find an excuse to wear it every day.

And, yes, the rumors that I was wearing fishnet stockings are absolutely true. That started out as sort of a dare/joke when I wore the dress to the Fest banquet, and now it's a necessary part of the outfit.

Gotta break out of the school marm clothes every so often. ;)

Unfortunately, Midnite's photos don't show the boots she was wearing. They were awesome.

Yes, it's all about the shoes . . .

Hi Midnite...
Thanks for the report and the additional picture.  I really appreciate it.  (Don't know what in hell you look so happy about though).

ROFL, would you believe me if I said I have no memory of putting my hand there?  Yet there it is. [blshb]

Yes.  I absolutely DO believe you.  Same thing happened to me once.  I didn't even realize I had my arms draped all over him until I saw a picture.  :o
What can ya do??  He's the most cuddly thing on the face of the earth.

Good for you, Criseyde!  That dress looks splendiferous on you.  And that ... <pause to breath> ... gorgeous man looks so good it's scary!

Are we absolutely SURE David doesn't have a portrait aging away in an attic somewhere?

Thank you, thank you, for the eyecandy! [lick]

And I agree with Birdie - let's hope he comes to the New England area soon.
