Title: Hi!
Post by: Lindsey on May 13, 2002, 04:01:07 AM
Hi all! My name is Lindsey and I am new to this forum. I'm 16 years old and LOVE Dark Shadows! I have been watching it for a little less than 3 years. I am a sophomore in high school and live in Ohio with my parents and my little sister, who is 13. I discovered Dark Shadows in 1999, on a day off from school. My dad and I were flipping through channels and he came across Dark Shadows on Sci-Fi and instantly remembered it and kept watching it. I forgot about because I was back in school, but started watching it that summer and have been obsessed with it since! I have been lurking here for a couple months and finally decided to register.
My favorite character is Angelique, which I am sure a will talk about more later.  :D I also love Barnabas. I am excited to be posting and I hope to hear from you guys soon!

Welcome! It is always fun to hear of DS attracting a new generation of fan. Of course, it was one of a kind! I have been a fan for longer than I like to say, my kids like it too.

Welcome, Lindsey!! :) :)  How nice that you decided to "delurk"!!

It sounds like you've been watching long enough to have seen the whole thing or almost by now.  It's always fun to find the show making new fans.

Hi Lindsey,

Welcome! I watched Dark Shadows with my Mom in the 60's. My daughter watches it too, and she wears Dark Shadows t-shirts and jewelry. She also likes to play the Dark Shadows board games with Mommy and grandma. There were 2 games that came out in 1968 and 1969 that I have. I have a huge collection of Dark Shadows memorabilia. I attend the Dark Shadows Festivals. I have a couple of websites, Cheryl's Dark Shadows Website, and Cheryl's Craig Slocum Website. He is my favorite actor on the show. I hope you find this to be a fun message board. Interesting to hear a new generation's point of view.

Hi Lindsey!

And welcome! I am new here too. I am glad that you are enjoying DS. Just curious does your father still watch it? Either way I am glad that you are!

Hope to see you here again!

Welcome, Lindsey!  :D

It's wonderful to see you posting with us!  I'm 18 years old, and I've been watching since February of 1999.  Because none of my friends had even heard of the show and nobody knew what I was talking about, I used to think that I was the only teenager in the world who watched Dark Shadows, and a weird one at that. I'm glad to see that that's not true.  As you've probably figured out by now from lurking, the people here are amazing, and I'm sure you'll fit right in.  Make yourself comfortable.  Looking forward to reading your posts!

WELCOME LINDSEY !!!!

It is great seeing that younger people are finding out about Dark Shadows.

I am an original fan and watched DS during it's first run 1966-1971.  Although there are bits and pieces along the way I missed.  I don't remember all the episodes.  So watching it on Sci-Fi is almost like seeing DS for the first time for me.  My 12 year son watches it with me too.

I like several of the charactors from DS.  To name just a few, Barnabas, Angelique, Quentin, Wille Loomis and Julia Hoffman.

Hope to see more of you on one of the more friendlier Ds Boards on the internet.

Welcome Lindsey!,
Reading your post and Stokes' reply reminds me of myself when I started really getting into DS. Like you and Stokes I was around 17 when I got into it. I barely remember my brother and sister watching first time around. I can definately relate to going to schoole explaining the show to friends and having them give you the dear in the headlights look. The teachers were hip to it because alot of them watched when they were kids.

Enjoy the board, there are some very cool people here.

Thanks for such a warm welcome! In answering one of your questions, yes, my dad still watches the show. He is not heavily into it, he is a school teacher and after school, when I get home, we watch it together. Usually, he isn't paying too much attention because he is on the computer with his racing stuff. (Now THAT'S something he's obsessed with!). I have not seen the full run of the series yet. I started watching it closely towards the end of the Dream Curse. Plus, I still have missed TONS of episodes due to school and homework. For instance, I have never seen Angelique place her infamous curse on Barnbas, or Barnabas brick up Trask, and other pivotal events. I just know about them because I will read about it or you can tell by watching later episodes. I was involved in my school musical, Titanic, from January to the middle of April, and missed a lot of 1795. We had practices pretty late every night, especially the closer we got to opening night. I barely had time to do my homework, let alone watch televison! It was definately a learning experience though. I could never understand when I read transcripts from the DS stars why they said the "live shooting" was so wonderful and how you got your best performances from it. But it's true! In live theatre, there is always the chance that something could go wrong and it is such an adrenaline rush! lol :) Anyway, I am excited about school ending so I can actually be able to catch everyday's episodes! Again, thanks for such a wonderful welcome and I look forward to talking to everyone!

Welcome to the board, Lindsey!  [wavey]
It is good to see a young person who has both good taste AND her priorities straight (i.e. schoolwork first).  Sadly, this is often not the case.

Happy DS watching!!!

Hi Lindsey,

Welcome!  I used to race home from school to watch DS during its original run!  I found one local station showing reruns for a limited time back in the 80's, but the show was on at midnight BEFORE the era of VCRs... :)

Luckily, my cable company picked up SciFi back in the late 90's, and I discovered, completely by accident one morning, that they had just started showing the DS episodes again...and at a reasonable time, too.  :D

Glad you quit lurking and came aboard!

Cheers,

Linda
