As regards costumes, I'd say Grayson had the most UNEVEN wardrobe of anyone.  Sometimes her outfits were, if not beautiful, very flattering to her coloring and looks.  I particularly love that electric blue dress that she wore several times in the winter of 1968-69.  There was another one with a roll-neck collar which she appeared in the final scene set in 1971.  ThatΫs counterbalanced by that unspeakable sweater set horror they stuck her in for the ENTIRE second half of the 1967 storyline, that hideously nubby orange horror that Stanley Simmons had the gall to pull out of the mothballs after Ramse Mostoller finally quit in 1970, that ghastly coat they made her wear during the Leviathan storyline (no successful professional woman in her right mind would have been seen dead in that thing), etc. etc.

Gothie I have to disagree with you about the sweater set horror. I was a teen during those years and I remember that type of clothing was very popular then, and I had skirts, blouses and sweaters much like it. I really liked that look and I thought Grayson looked great. It was common attire among those of us who were not wearing hippie attire in Haight-Ashbury, and certainly more attractive than those God-awful A-line dresses of Vicky's, all of which looked exactly alike except for the color.

As to the coat, I think you are referring to the blue, green patterned thing? If I remember correctly Julia was wearing that coat when she visited 1897 and since she did not have it on when she unexpectedly got drawn back to 1969 that coat either made it's own journey through time and back to the Collins' coat rack or Julia went to Brewsters upon her return and bought another one, because she had that thing on practically through the whole Leviathan sequence. She must have really loved it  ;-)

Current Talk '02 I / Re: Tell me a story......
« on: March 30, 2002, 07:29:44 PM »
I can think of two stories, one of which I recounted on the "old" board.

My first Fest experience was in 2000 at the LA Marriott. As I was leaving the building on Saturday morning to get something from my car, I encountered Louis Edmonds and John Karlen sitting outside on a bench, soaking up the sun, talking to each other and visiting with fans who happened to see them there. It was lovely to see, with no festival staff to keep fans away from the actors. They looked so relaxed and were really enjoying talking to people.

At the NY Fest last year Saturday was unexpectedly a sell out. On Saturday I was sitting in the ballroom next to a fan who told me that she had come in to town for the day to attend the Fest, not knowing that it was sold out. So as not to have a wasted day, she decided to buy one of KLS' books. She waited in line at the Pomegranite (spelling?) table and as she was having her book autographed by KLS she told her of not being able to attend the Fest itself. KLS then gave the fan her business card, and on the back she had written "-----(I forget her name) is my personal assistant. Please admit her to all activities." I thought this was a very thoughtful gesture on the part of the actress.

Current Talk '02 I / Re: CHANGING DS HISTORY
« on: March 27, 2002, 10:01:17 PM »
If I could make a DS change, I think that I would have spared the life of vampire Tom, which would have resulted in the death and rising of Julia Hoffman. Vampire Julia would then have her choice between fellow vampire Tom and human Barnabas. If she had chosen Barnabas, she would eventually have to fight vampire Angelique for him. I would love to have seen that cat, (oops, pardon me) vampire fight. ;)

Current Talk '02 I / Re: Passions Soap Opera
« on: March 23, 2002, 07:34:29 PM »
I tried watching Passions after I heard that it was using DS music for one plotline, but the show is so slow-moving that it just did not keep my interest. I am happy for a soap that uses the supernatural and loved watching Robin Strasser when she was on the show, but I really wish they would speed up the pace a little. That double wedding must have taken up a solid month.

I don't watch any other soap, but as a kid in the 60s I was hooked on several, besides DS. I know DS' pace was brutal and that helped kill it, but my memory of the other soaps was that they were not as slow to tell a story as Passions is now. Anyone else remember if that is so? Also, do all the current soaps progress at a snail's pace as well?

About Polly Maggoo--it has been showing up on Ebay quite a bit lately, both with subtitles and without. Keep your eyes open and you should be able to pick up a copy.  :)

Current Talk '02 I / Re: Sarahs Warning to David
« on: March 16, 2002, 12:01:42 AM »
I always assumed that Sarah was talking about Barnabas as the dead, and that it was Julia that he was angry with and trying to destroy. After all, Sarah had just saved Julia from being strangled (yet again!) by B. After all, Barn really is one of the dead who has come back. To me, this is the beginning of the writers building up sympathy for Julia and turning her into "good" Julia instead of "bad" Julia, since it seemed obvious by then that Julia Hoffman was becoming too popular a character to kill off as originally planned.  :D

Wow, another Southern California DS fan!  :)  I thought I was the only one.  I will definitely be at the Anaheim Festival, and I hope to meet you, Bette.  I was also considering attending the banquet.  Would those of you who have gone before recommend it?

No, professor you are not the only one, though I wish there were more of us in contact with each other. There is a small group who meet around Christmas called "Shadows in the Sun." I don't think they are terribly active.  :-[  I only went once to a get-together.

Hope to see you in Anaheim. :)

Hi all,

This may be a little soon to ask, but with the latest Shadowgram mailing I am starting to anticipate this years' Fest in Anaheim. I had a great time in NY last year and loved meeting so many of you and I was wondering who is planning on attending this year? Since I live in Southern California I definitely will be there and look forward to the opportunity to meet more of y'all and to see again those who helped to make last years Fest such a memorable one for me--you guys hanging out outside the bar on Saturday night know who you are!  :)

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / To Midnite-It worked!
« on: March 02, 2002, 12:00:37 AM »
Midnite,

I am trying to post from the computer at my desk and it works (at least in Explorer)  ;D Maybe the problem is that at the library we have old Netscape, mostly 4.7 or lower.  :P

Thanks for your help. Don't know why it works on this particular computer. ??? The iMac at home is probably a lost cause.

Happy to finally be "in the loop."
