Enjoyed Darren's post here, as well as J99's pictures.  Although I am neither male nor gay, I just love Grayson Hall.  There is something about her that is just...intriguing.  I understand she didn't particularly enjoy her experience filming either "Satan in High Heels" or "End of the Road" (about as far away from repressed Dr. Julia Hoffman as you can get, lol), but I (for one) am grateful some of these performances have been preserved on tape.  Since GH was primarily a stage actress, we'll never be able to access most of what she did professionally.  I've seen a few photos of her on stage, wish there were more...

I agree with you 100% mrsJ. I'm also neither male nor gay, but for me Grayson Hall IS Dark Shadows. I loved the show, but I am sure that I would not be still following it after all these years if not for Grayson. And I really don't know why. Even Richard Burton is supposed to have said of her that when she is on screen the audience doesn't look at anyone else.

And I heard David Selby acknowledge at a Fest that there was no one like Grayson: no one looks like her and no one sounds like her. (Although, personally I do think Eileen Heckart came close.)

Thanks, J99, for posing this question.  :)

VAM's vampire poll inspired me to ask a question of my own.  Who was your favorite of the DS mages?  ... My vote goes to Nicholas

Sorry, there is only one spell caster I'll vote for and that is Magda. She may not have been in the business of casting spells, but she certainly knew how to put a curse on someone [evily]

Ok, I'll give it a shot.

10. Don Briscoe-far and way the hunkiest  :D

9. Jonathan Frid-loved his dark moodiness, then and now

8. David Selby-it's funny, I didn't care for him originally, but the actor now is quite yummy. He has aged extremely well!

7.James Storm-I don't know, there's just something about him.

6. Joel Crothers-classic good looks.

5. Christopher Pennock-I've always loved blondes.

4. John Karlen-for a good time.

3. Roger Davis-like his looks, NOT his personality.

2. Michael Stroka-does absolutely nothing for me.

1. Humbert Allen Astredo-too oily.  :P

In parallel time Roxanne used RT Julia's brooch to find out where PT Angelique had stashed her.  :)

I'm a "local" as it were, and have been thru LAX several times so I'll try to answer your question about transportation.

There are several "group carriers" that operate shuttle vans from LAX to all parts of Southern Cal, including Anaheim/Disneyland. The two biggest carriers are Super Shuttle and Prime Time.

When you get to the airport, just follow the signs to "ground transportation" then look for the large signs indicating group carriers when you get to the curb. Super Shuttle and Prime Time are right next to each other. You will find a person with a clipboard who will take your name and destination and radio a van. You may have to wait a while and you may circle the airport in the van a few times before the van finally takes off. There will be others also who may need to be dropped off on the way.

I have done this twice, once with Prime Time and once with Super Shuttle and it seems to work okay. To get back to the airport you can make a reservation and get picked up at the Marriott.

Hope this helps,

Bette

I have to vote for Tom Jennings also. Those scenes between Tom and Julia have stuck with me for over thirty years and that two-week plotline is still one of my favorites. Tom was one hot vamp. [grinb]

"The Intruders" - that's it, Bette!  Thanks!  Richard Crenna starred in it.

You are welcome Gerard. That's the thing about librarians. We can't resist trying to find answers.  :D  In this case, the Internet Movie Database came through.

By the way, what was the name of that Dan Curtis miniseries back in the early 90's about alien's abducting people for cross-breading purposes?

Could that be "The Intruders"?

Did both of the recent novels (Lara's and Mark's) have good circulation statistics? Just curious....

Lara's book did not have a huge circulation considering how many people there are in LA. Unfortunately Mark's book was barcoded as "generic paperback" so there is no way of gathering circulation stats on it.  :-/

well, i have a friend who says it was on the show, and even showed me a picture.

Perhaps it was the zombies who destroyed Collinwood in the summer of 1970.

Julia's ring: in 1840 it saved her life when Barnabas saw it on the finger of Laszlo.

Great job you have Bette. I am an Approval Plan Manager for a large book distributor on the East Coast. I select health/science books for hospitals and medical school  library collections according to their profile. However, I have worked in every type of library (academic,  public, and special) during my career. I specialized in reference service. I enjoy helping people find information.

Sounds like an interesting job. We have started to use a sort of profiling in ordering for our subject departments. I do have to agree though that helping people find information is the most rewarding part of the job. Since my department has the books on TV I get especially excited when people ask about Dark Shadows books or other info, and believe it or not, after all this time people do still ask.  :)

Bette darling, How could I have forgotten that you are also working amongst the stacks (or the ref room, to be more accurate)???  I guess it's because you were so regal and charming when I met you, I think of you more in a job like "Mistress of Collinwood" than "Ruler of the Ref Room"!

Thanks for the compliment Steve, but I really feel more like Mrs. Johnson, just trying to keep the place running while everyone else goes on about their sometimes crazy business.  ;D

Out from THE SHADOWS IN THE STACKS comes Bette!

SHADOWS IN THE STACKS is a great name for the librarians amongst us. I'm at LAPL in Los Angeles (Literature and Fiction Dept. of course). Where are you?

Bette
PS: to keep in line with the topic, I'll vote for Vicky for Governess of the Year
