Beautiful shot today of Chris Pennock as Gabriel Collins--reportedly his favorite role on the series (from old interviews I recall reading).

Let's hope we have good news of Chris's health soon.

Another great shot today. And it's close to the end.

The ultimate curse was looming--cancellation.

153
Great shot of Michael Stroka as Bruno today! I can't recall from the episode number if that's Alexis or Angelique--most likely the former, I would guess.

Thanks, MB!

Wishing you well, G.

Marvelous shot of Diana and David. I always love a glimpse of our Phoenix! I don't think any other horror show ever had one.

Today's capture really is too priceless. I love all of Grayson's scenes with Donna. The interaction between them is always fun.

Hope things are OK, MB.

All the best, Gothick

Thanks for these, MB. I hope everything is OK.

Sending good vibes,

Gothick

Thanks for sharing this news, Midnite. I hope Robert and Chris both return to health and that their families are getting all the support they need.

A classic line and a classic moment.

There are a lot of fabulous treasures on your page, Doctor and K9! For me the prize jewels are a couple of those panels from that early 1980s Shadowcon... the technical panel and the writers' panel, in particular. Those were fascinating and involved people who worked on the show interviewed very seldom, or so I recall.

I thought of you last week because I acquired a DVD of the Dr Who serial The Stones of Blood, and it featured the original Romana Mary Tamm, along with the Doctor and K9 (who had more to do than in some of the stories of that period). The disc includes a fascinating short film about the Rollright Stones in Oxfordshire where the outdoor scenes were filmed, hosted by Mary Tamm. It's so sad we lost her so young.

Barbara recalled in a commentary for a different release... I think it's on a video interview she did with David del Valle on the Nightmare Castle DVD... that she found working with Dan on DS extremely frustrating. He insisted on her giving a very strictly defined performance and she wanted to be much more stylish and expressive--which she did finally get to do when she played Natalie (I've commented before that Barbara's version of Natalie comes off more like a florid, flamboyant bordello madam than a French countess to me). And she got to play Natalie like that, evidently, because Dan had stopped directing the shows at that point.

Interesting point about Barbara not working on AHS. I personally do not care for what I have seen of those stories, and it may be that she doesn't either, but who knows. It would indeed be a bit strange if she had not been approached to work on it. I think some people find Barbara "way too much"--she's quite flamboyant in real life. In the documentary from circa 1981 about the Chelsea Hotel (in which I think Barbara may appear briefly--it is on y.t.), there's this scene of somebody talking to her small daughter and saying "you know, she always exaggerates everything, just like Barbara Steele." Funny because Matt Hall used to complain about how his Mom loved to describe everything in inflated, overly colorful terms, back when she was living.

Wow MB, I do not remember that scene between Lou and Dennis at all. Need to get these out again! I think technically this comes in the early weeks of Barnabas. I still remember when I finally got to see these in early syndication back in '76 not knowing what was going on with the Jason storyline... I somehow didn't have my old issues of 16 magazine conveying the "Whole True Story of Dark Shadows" (there were considerable lacunae and errors in there, as I only learned years later) at hand to check. Fans today don't realize just how little info was available back then, particularly about almost anything prior to June of '67.

Great shot of Liz and Roger!

On the comments thread on one of Danny Horn's blog entries about the Claude North episodes, some fans report more gossip about Frid's relationship with Brian S. I did think Brian had a very intriguing presence on camera, so it's a shame he did not pursue acting, though it is always possible he continued to act on stage. Lots of actors did that, such as Marilyn Joseph, Chris Pennock's wife at the period when the show was in production. Marilyn appeared briefly as Collinsport strumpet Lorna Bell, who I always want to call Lorna Doone whenever the topic of her character comes up.

Talking of Pennock, loved yesterday's shot of Sebastian Shaw. Trippy, man!

A note from Danny Horn from his blog for episode 1051/1052:

Claude North is played by Brian Sturdivant, who previously appeared on the show in January as the Bellboy in Mr. Best’s afterlife waiting room. In our universe, he’s only on Dark Shadows for three episodes, and then I’m not sure what happens to him. IMDb says that in 1971, he had a small part in a Roger Corman WWI pic called Von Richthofen and Brown, and a part in a TV-movie about a social worker called The Coming Asunder of Jimmy Bright. IBDb says that in 1972, he appeared on Broadway for three months in a background role in Vivat! Viva Regina! And then I don’t know what happened to him after that. I really do actually think that he’s handsome and potentially charismatic, and I wish they’d kept him around.

Yay, it's a Brian Sturdivant close-up! One of the very irregular players who is almost never discussed or acknowledged.

I've wondered if the Claude North character was one of the victims of Dan Curtis' bouts of sudden story switching midway through an established plotline. He's given such a huge buildup and then he's gone in 3 or 4 episodes. And so little is actually done with the character. Perhaps there was an issue with the actor. His career did not last very long... somewhere or other recently, I read that he was a personal friend of Jonathan Frid's.

So much love for today's photo! I love how near-crazed Stokes looks in the capture. Vicki looks confused and has what I think of as her "experimental" hairstyle. I can't recall how long that lasted.

I always feel now as if I've somehow thrown the I Ching or gone down the Stairway through Time when I comment here since it's still 2019 on this board... believe me, I am not complaining.

cheers, G.
