Author Rich Handley, who has been a guest on my podcast twice, put together this comprehensive Index for fans. I thought I'd share it here for those who might be interested. I find it very helpful when it comes to the Big Finish audio dramas because there are so many of those:

One thing I wonder about is whether international syndication in the early 70's included the last year of DS, unlike US syndicated airings. ABC wasn't making kinescopes of the show by the time they got to 1840 and 1841PT, but I wonder if actual tapes of those shows were provided to the international markets and whether they even aired the final year of the show in those countries. If so, one wonders if there's a remote possibility that a Spanish-language dubbed video tape for lost episode 1219 exists in the vaults of some TV station in Costa Rica, Paraguay, etc. I know it's highly unlikely, but kind of fun to imagine that the video for that episode exists out there, somewhere. Does anyone know if they aired those final episodes? Something tells me they didn't get those, but figured I'd put it out there in case anyone has any info on that.

Not sure if this has been posted here, but here's a C-Span video from 2015.
David Selby appears at around the 24:00 mark.

Ford’s Theatre hosted a wreath laying ceremony on the steps of the Petersen House commemorating the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln’s death on April 15, 1865. The exact moment of Lincoln’s death was marked with a performance of “Taps” by the Federal City Brass Band. Speakers included Interior Secretary Sally Jewell and James Swanson, author of Manhunt: the 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer.

President Lincoln died at 7:22am on April 15, 1865, in the small, back bedroom of the Petersen House, just across the street from Ford’s Theatre.

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / MEGO figures possibility?
« on: November 09, 2021, 11:28:25 PM »
At Rhode Island Comic-Con this past weekend, my friend Ricardo Rebelo asked directly about Dark Shadows MEGO figures (at around 10:16). The fact that Paul referred to Angelique as “Angelina” and said that only Barnabas sold well for Spectre Toys doesn’t bode too well, but it does sound like there might at least be hope for Barnabas if they can sort out the licensing.

I was delighted and floored when I received an email from a gentleman who informed me that his uncle had been a cameraman on the original DS, and that he had some behind-the-scenes photos he was willing to share.

While the uncle in question wishes to remain anonymous, he was kind enough to answer some questions via his nephew.

Please enjoy these wonderful, rare photos and some fascinating insights from the perspective of a DS cameraman!

IN MEMORY OF ROBERT RODAN

ShadowGram is deeply saddened to report the passing of Dark Shadows actor Robert Rodan who played the man-made creature Adam on the series in 1968.

A longtime presence at DS Festivals and fan events in Los Angeles from the 1980s through the 2010s, Robert was always full of energy and enthusiasm.  He very much enjoyed working on the show and celebrating the ongoing popularity over the years with fellow castmates and devotees alike.

During his acting career in the late 1960s, Robert starred in the motion picture The Minx in addition to appearing in Looking For Love and Goodbye Charlie. He was also seen on The Garry Moore Show and Day In Court.

On stage in Los Angeles and New York, he performed in Elizabeth The Queen, Hail To The Chief, The Communist, The Long Goodbye, Detective Story and The Hasty Heart.

Robert was born Robert Trimas in Newark, New Jersey on January 30, 1939.  Following his days modeling, making television commercials and acting, he shifted focus in the 1970s to running a real estate business based in Encino, California. In his leisure time he enjoyed sailing on his boat. In 2018, Robert moved to Oregon where he passed away on March 25 of heart failure. His ashes will be scattered off Catalina Island.

Although he wasn't always able to respond, Robert greatly enjoyed hearing from old friends and fans during his final months. He is survived by his loving daughters Mandi and Laura and son Jordan in addition to granddaughter Brianna.

Current Talk '24 I / 'Practically Famous' - Alex Stevens doc?
« on: February 06, 2021, 06:46:03 PM »
Stacy Poulos, niece of the late, great Alex Stevens was working on a documentary about her uncle a few years back. He was going to be featured in it, apparently along with David Selby and others. Did anything ever come of this?

https://www.facebook.com/EastCoastStuntmen/videos/dark-shadows-werwolf-animated-for-practicallyfamous/1225678257570525/

As I recall, they never interviewed him for the DVD sets, alas.

I didn't see a thread about this, so I thought I'd post it here. Apologies if I missed an existing thread for it.

KLS just posted that David Henesy will also be joining in!  [hall2_shocked]

I really hope this will be archived on YouTube. I have plans for a small outdoor get-together with friends on Halloween night.

Hello DS Forum cousins,

I haven't posted in awhile, but thought I'd pop in to say "hi."

Sometime in the late 80's or early 90's, I remember calling this hotline to hear Jonathan Frid read a very short version of 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow'. Someone put it up on Archive.Org...

https://archive.org/details/07FridMCILegendOfSleepyHollow

Hope everyone is doing well, and staying safe.

Annie's Book Stop in Worcester, MA is having a day-long 'Dark Shadows' event on Sat. October 22nd. Kathryn Leigh Scott and Sharon Smyth Lentz will be Skyping in at some point during the day. There'll be a panel discussion about the show as well. I'll be there, as Penny Dreadful, from 12:00 to 5:30. It'd be great to see some local DS fans! :)

Current Talk '16 I / Somewhat quiet 50th Anniversary
« on: March 25, 2016, 08:04:09 PM »
I'm surprised there isn't more hoopla surrounding the 50th anniversary of DS. We have the Festival coming, which is great, but gosh, the Fest REALLY needs to get with the times. Even fan events for vintage films offer membership purchases through the internet which you can buy with a credit card or even via Paypal. The Fest is still using the SASE method, which is charming in its way, but not the most modern way of doing things to say the least. The website is also in dire need of a revamp. Jim Pierson, if you're reading this, PLEASE shell out some cash and hire a web designer, sir! If it's too expensive, do a kickstarter! :)

As for merchandising, we seemingly have only a few things coming out this year. There's the re-release of the record album. Okay, fun, but not the most exciting offering in the world, IMO (though the purple vinyl is cool).

The retro metal lunchbox is coming, which is something I'm definitely looking forward to checking out. I will probably pick that one up. It's something new and fun, so "yay!" :)

We have the audio dramas, and I know the 50th anniversary edition is on the way, but I feel the audios have been on the downturn story-wise. The actors are great, but the writing and direction is off-base, in my opinion. I don't mean this to be disrespecful to anyone, but it's just my honest critique, so I hope nobody takes offense. I've listened to some interviews with the creators, particularly pertaining to the recent 'Bloodlust,' and they talk way too much about Dallas and refer to "soaps" a lot. This gives me the sense that they don't fully "get it" when it comes to DS. 'Bloodlust' itself makes references to things like "Lucky Charms" and 80's TV shows, and the characters speak in a way that simply doesn't "feel" like DS to me. All of this serves to undermine the whole "dark Brigadoon" feel Jonathan Frid always talked about. Suffice to say, I miss having hardcore fan creators like Darren Gross and Stephen Mark Rainey involved. Stuart Manning, I think, had a better grasp on the feel of DS than does Joseph Lidster. But I guess that's a conversation for a whole different topic.

There's also the series of Retropolis podcasts devoted to DS, and it has been fun hearing the actors speak at length about their experiences. The host is new to many of these stories, but he does ask some good questions.

As far as I know know, that's all that's going on for the anniversary. I'd love to see more things - commerative action figures, new comic books or even a one-shot graphic novel, an animated short, a televised documentary, new trading cards, statues, etc. I guess it's too much to ask, but it IS the big 5-0.  I wonder if the Burton/Depp fiasco put the kibosh on interest from licensees or even the fans themselves.

Sorry that my first big post after a long time of not posting much is a bit negative. I am just trying to figure out why there seems to be a lack of "buzz" surrounding the big DS birthday! DCP and Jim should reach out to purveyors of Pop culture ephemera such as POP Vinyl, Re-Action, and others.
