Okay, I've been trying to save a copy of email in my outbox; now I need to re-send an IM. Isn't there an easy way, or do I have to copy/paste re-do?

Copy/paste will certainly work. Or you could quote the message and then remove these outermost opening and closing quote tags:

so that your entire message isn't quoted and will look the way you originally intended. And be sure to re-enter the name(s) of the member(s) you're sending the copy to, or else you'll receive an error when you try to preview or send it.
