Actually, SoapNet also shows the following soaps:
I didn't include the primetime soaps because it's not that surprising that they've been rerun - after all, at maximum they have 360-ish episodes ala Dallas and Knots Landing. Another World, on the other hand, had something like 8891 episodes, while Ryan's Hope had 3515. Primetime soaps have been seen in reruns for quite a while (starting with Peyton Place), whereas reruns of daytime soaps didn't come about until the advent of cable (with the exception of DS).

Dark Shadows still holds the record for being the only network soap to have its reruns syndicated on local stations. I believe reruns of the first-run syndicated soap Strange Paradise were also shown on local stations in the 1970s and 1980s.

Dark Shadows and Passions aren't the only soaps to have their reruns syndicated on cable, though. There have been seven soaps that have been aired by cable networks at one point or another, not including soaps that air same-day episodes on SoapNet:
(1) The Edge of Night (USA, 1985-1989)
(2) Search for Tomorrow (USA, 1985-1987)
(3) Dark Shadows (Sci Fi, 1992-2003)
(4) Ryan's Hope (SoapNet, 2000- )
(5) Another World (SoapNet, 2003- )
(6) Port Charles (SoapNet, 2003- )
(7) Passions (Sci-Fi, 2006- )

Current Talk '05 I / Re: Best/Favorite Episodes
« on: April 20, 2005, 10:35:09 PM »
Okay, I have a ton of episodes, so this is a long list...

Episode #0001 (OAD: 06/27/1966) - I just love watching this episode. It's so well-crafted and well-written, and you can tell a bit more effort went into this episode than any of the ones that followed.

Episodes #0126 & #0127 (OAD: 12/19-20/1966) - Victoria is rescused from Matthew by the ghosts of Josette and Bill Malloy. GhostJosette floats around the columns of the Old House. Really good conclusion to the murderous Matthew storyline.

Episode #0191 (OAD: 03/20/1967) - After getting a message from Josette, Victoria goes to the fishing shack to save David from Laura. Elizabeth comes out of her coma. An outstanding conclusion to an outstanding story.

Episode #0210 (OAD: 04/17/1967) - Episode prior to the first appearance of Barnabas. Willie goes to the family crypt and unleashes a monster.

Episode #0271 (OAD: 07/10/1967) - Elizabeth confesses to Paul's murder after she ends the wedding.

Episodes #0280 & 281 (OAD: 07/21/1967 & 07/24/1967) - The big costume party at the Old House. I simply adore these episodes.

Episode #0366 (OAD: 11/20/1967) - Victoria finds herself in 1795.

Episode #0405 (OAD: 01/12/1967) - Angelique curses Barnabas.

Episode #0461 (OAD: 04/01/1968) - Victoria returns to the present after being hung as a witch in 1795.

Episode #0657 (OAD: 12/31/1968) - Victoria's ghost begins to haunt Collinwood.

Episode #0691 (OAD: 02/17/1969) - Elizabeth and Mrs. Johnson finally realize that Amy and David have become posessed.

Episode #0693 (OAD: 02/19/1969) - A failed exorcism is performed on Collinwood.

Episode #0694 (OAD: 02/20/1969) - The Collins family is forced to flee Collinwood.

Episode #0711 (OAD: 03/17/1969) - Angelique is summoned to 1897 by Quentin and Evan.

Episode #0746 (OAD: 05/05/1969) - Magda and Jenny reunite. I'm not sure about this one, but it's the one episode that came to mind. I just loved all the episodse with Jenny.

Episodes #0803 & #804 (OAD: 07/23-24/1969) - Due to Petofi's posession of Jamison, Edward thinks he is a servant while Charity is convinced she is Pansy Faye.

Really enjoyed 1897, but I had trouble coming up with specific episodes from that period of the show. Again, I really liked the Jenny storyline and the beginning of the Kitty storyline.

Episode #1001 (OAD: 04/27/1970) - Angelique and Alexis switch places.

Episode #1049 (OAD: 07/02/1970) - Carolyn is killed by the serial killer.

Episode #1053 (OAD: 07/08/1970) - The identity of the serial killer is revealed when Elizabeth confronts him.

Episodes #1061-1070 (OAD: 07/20-31/1970) - Barnabas and Julia travel to 1995. Really enjoyed this short arc and can't come up with one particular episode.

Episode #1109 (OAD: 09/24/1970) - Zombies destroy Collinwood.

OK, I really, really love 1840, but again, I'm having trouble thinking of episodes from it. I truly enjoyed most of the storylines, especially anything dealing with Samantha.

Episode #1197 (OAD: 01/26/1971) - Quentin and Desmond are saved; Gerard dies. Barnabas tells Angelique he loves her; Angelique dies.

Episode #1231 (OAD: 03/15/1971) - The events of 1680 are revealed.

Episode #1237 (OAD: 03/23/1971) - Gabriel dies. Kendrick begins to reveal Melanie's maternity.

Episode #1238 (OAD: 03/24/1971) - Daphne dies. Melanie finds out who her real mother is and is very, very happy.

Episode #1245 (OAD: 04/02/1971) - The final episode.

Current Talk '05 I / Re: Worst Episodes
« on: April 20, 2005, 10:07:37 PM »
I can't really pinpoint specific episodes, but most of the episodes during the Adam storyline were just dreadful - everything was just so drawn out. Also, the last half of Leviathan had a lot of huge bombs that I found infinitely difficult to sit through.

The episodes of 1970PT from when most of the cast was shooting House of Dark Shadows are pretty dreadful, too. Some are fine, but the ones that mainly focus around Cyrus and Sabrina? Ugh!

Now that I think about it, one specific episode does come to mind, and tripwire mentioned it. I hated the episode where Julia runs around Collinwood scared half out of her mind during the entire episode. As much as I love Grayson Hall, that episode was just really bad.

Current Talk '05 I / Re: most annoying d s character
« on: March 25, 2005, 11:04:33 PM »
* Jeff Clark
* Ned Stuart
* Dirk Wilkins
* Charles Delaware Tate
Peter Bradford was the only bearable Roger Davis character, IMO.

* Eric Lang - I was glad when he died.

* Sabrina Stuart (RT & PT) - I never cared for the character or her PT counterpart. She annoyed me to no end, and that wig didn't help matters much. I didn't care for Lisa Richards.

* Jeb Hawkes - Cheap, insufferable pig, indeed.

* Cyrus Longworth - Boring.

* John Yaeger - Ew.

* Adam

* Harry Johnson

* Maggie Evans (post-1969) - I think the writers really ruined the character of Maggie after the show returned to the present in late 1969. She was either the victim or she was annoying. I hated the way she acted when she "reunited" Paul and Carolyn - she was smirking while Carolyn became visibly upset.

* Maggie Evans Collins (PT) - She always annoyed me - what a push-over! I was rooting for Hoffman.

* Rachel Drummond - Nitwit.

* Burke Devlin - I only liked him after Anthony George took over the role. I thought Mitch Ryan was a good actor; Burke just annoyed me in the early episodes.

* Barnabas Collins - He annoyed me quite a bit from time to time. I honestly never felt that sorry for him, because it seemed like he'd always go to the docks and snack on some callgirl after telling someone how much he loathed being a vampire. x.X! He didn't mind killing innocent people, either - he never showed much remorse about killing Carl, for instance.

Louis was in the 1979 episode that SOAPnet aired at 8:00AM. He shared some scenes with Ruth Warrick (Phoebe) and Eileen Herlie (Myrtle). The episode will be repeating tonight at 8:00PM.

9
Anyone know if Ruth Warrick and JOAN BENNETT crossed paths/were friends during their Hollywood years, or perhaps later, when both were doing daytime in NYC? And wouldn't it have been unique for Joan to have made a cameo on "All My Children" in the 80's, portraying Louis' (Langley's) sister?
Ruth and Joan were friends. In an old Soap Opera Digest I have from 1980, there's even a picture of Joan looking through Ruth's autobiography, The Confessions of Phoebe Tyler, with Ruth sitting next to her. I'll try to scan it sometime and post it here.

This is off-topic, but I know some people on here have expressed interest in the marathons SOAPnet sometimes shows. A great All My Children marathon is coming up on Saturday, February 12th from 7:00AM to 1:00PM. It will be featuring classic episodes of the show that feature Susan Lucci from 1970, 1979, 1983, 1986, 1988, and 2000:

March 15, 1970: Erica proves herself a force to be reckoned with as she pursues Jeff Martin.
April 20, 1970: Erica reveals her big plans for life in her famous, "I want to be special and I am going to be!" malt shop speech.
November 27, 1979: Tom Cudahy confronts Erica about her secretly using birth control pills.
February 16, 1983: Erica shoots a commercial at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
November 25, 1986: Erica tries to bust Jeremy Hunter out of prison via helicopter.
February 9, 1988: Erica gives birth to Bianca.
November 13, 2000: A Libidozone'd Erica sings on a piano at the Valley Inn.

Louis Edmonds was a cast member on AMC, where he played Langley Wallingford from 1979-1995, so maybe he'll be seen in one of the episodes in the marathon.  :)

Polls Archive / Re: Three Most Favorite Joan Bennett Characterizations
« on: January 02, 2005, 08:21:51 PM »
I voted for Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (present), Judith Collins Trask, and Flora Collins. I loved how Bennett portrayed Elizabeth's strength in the early episodes, and she also conveyed her weaknesses very well. I loved the way Flora was originally written - as a giggly, giddy woman very unlike Joan's other characters. I hated when they changed Flora's personality later in the storyline.  [santa_sad]

I voted for Roger, Edward, and Daniel. I loved Roger's snobbiness and arrogance! Senile, crazy Daniel was an interesting depature from that.

I voted for Maggie and Kitty. I liked Maggie in the early episodes, but I didn't like her later on when she constantly became the frightened victim. I loved Kitty in the beginning, especially since she was different from all the other characters. I didn't like her as much after they turned her from a golddigger into another Josette clone. I didn't like any of the other characters.

I voted for Willie, Carl, and Desmond. They were different from each other in so many ways - Willie was so sympathetic and on edge at all times, Carl was a great practical joker, and Desmond was much stronger than both of them. I also liked Willie H. Loomis and Kendrick Young quite a bit.

Like CastleBee, I voted for Carolyn (present day), Millicent, and Charity/"Pansy" for pretty much the same reasons she gave. I loved all of her other characters though, especially Melanie.
