Do drive-ins still exist?  Our local one lasted until around the early 90's.  It was a fun place to enjoy.  As a family, we saw such films as Hey, There, It's Yogi Bear and Mary Poppins, as teens usually horror movies (including Race With the Devil with Lara Parker) and we'd pull the old prank of sending one unsuspecting group member to the food building while we moved the car, and as adults such classics as Dawn of the Dead and The Changeling

The scratchy loud speakers one would hang the driver's side interior window always has bird poop (especially seagull poop) coating it and if the windows were left open, the mosquitoes had a feast.  Close them, and the car fogged up (and those burning bug coils set on the dashboard did not work).

There are still drive-ins in several Southern states, where they can stay open much longer during the year and actually make a profit.

Interesting that you still had a drive-in into the '90s because the last one in may corner of the Northeast closed in the mid-'80s...

There was a drive in theatre near when I went to college that tried to bolster attendance by showing porn. It worked but they had to discontinue it because distracted drivers kept running their cars off the road.

There are also makeshift drive-ins popping up in places like Walmart parking lots.
