Welcome back Fest-goers: More DS LABYRINTH...
« on: July 01, 2002, 07:32:16 AM »
Depressed about not being able to go to the fest this year, I spent most of the weekend writing a new chapter of DARK SHADOWS: THE LABYRINTH OF SOULS. So, okay, I had fun. And though I'm not making any money off this, it was a lot cheaper than flying to Anaheim and staying at a hotel. On the other hand, I didn't get to hang out with any stars.

D A N G I T !
and all that.

So you lucky people coming back from the fest have more DS to occupy your time, if you're so inclined. I imagine some of you might not have even read the previous chapter(s) yet, since I managed to zap them out pretty quickly, one after the other. So here's the links to the three most recent:

NEW: Chapter Six http://home.triad.rr.com/smrainey/labyrinth06.htm

Chapter Five http://home.triad.rr.com/smrainey/labyrinth05.htm

Chapter Four http://home.triad.rr.com/smrainey/labyrinth04.htm

Well, I hope you find these entertaining. HarperCollins don't know what they missin...  ;D

Mark,
I wish there was some way we could let Harper Collins know what they are missing.   ::) :P Are they the ones who dropped the idea of a DS series?

Thanks so much for generously sharing your story with us.   ;D Quentin is my favorite character.

I have enjoyed reading all of your books and I'm really enjoying this one!   :D

I'm enjoying every word, Mark, my talented friend, and while I'm sorry you were denied the fest this year, I'm glad that you're regaling us with with further chapters of this wonderful story.  The fest's loss is our gain.  Thank you!

I, too, think I've guessed the identity of the new visitor, and wonder what he has up his sleeve for the Collins family.

Love, Robin

Yes; not long after DREAMS OF THE DARK came out, HarperCollins changed management, our editor left, several series were dropped (including DS), and the future of the books left in limbo. By all indications, it's a dead horse at the moment. For a time, there appeared to be the possibility of another publisher picking up the series, but it hasn't borne any fruit.

I certainly do appreciate those of you who've read what I've done on LABYRINTH thus far. I've always hated to start something and not finish it, but there has to be a reason for going ahead on a project other than pure self-indulgence. Y'all have provided a reason. Thanks! ;D

[read]

All I can say is, I'm savouring every word of this story.  Loved the encounter between Barnabas & Quentin out in the snow.  ESPECIALLY the way it began:

"Come on and try it," Quentin whispered. "I wonder what my blood might do to YOU."
"I trust you are not referring to me," came a rich, cultured voice from behind him. A very familiar voice.

[/color]

[lghy]    That is so great.

I found the description of Barnabas & Carolyn's little meeting riveting to say the least.  If I didn't know better, I'd suspect the author has experienced this type of victimization first hand!  LOL   :o

There's just one problem with reading this story.  I am now totally spoiled - don't want to read anything else!

-Connie

P.S.  By the way....nothing better happen to Quentin - that's all I can say.   [sure]

'Thus far' is my fave part of that post, man!  It is great to have someone who writes as well as yerself, and who is able to subtly work in the tidbits of DS history into the story line [and even some 'in' jokes? Pennock supper club???]  For those of us that have been to the real place in Terry-town, you really capture the atmosphere - as well as the personalities. And thanks for having a bald guy in the story!  ::) Please keep it coming!

cheers,
Ringo

What was I thinking? In the text of the story, please change the line where Dr. Karswell introduces himself so that it reads:

"Good morning. My name is Ringo Karswell. Yes, it's true... I have no hair."

I meant to do that originally, but at the last minute I totally forgot about it.

I'm hoping the July 4 holiday will finally give me a chance to start on this!  I carted the printout all the way to Anaheim, but for various reasons never got a chance to read it either on the plane or before retiring for the evening.  I was also overpacked and weighted down upon my departure (what with the hotel room's bars of soap, bottles of shampoo, and whatnot  ;D -- not to mention some unanticipated purchases, including but not limited to DS merchandise  :) ) ... and in my rush so as not to miss my shuttle, I left the printout on my bedside table.  Hopefully one of the housekeeping staff is enjoying it ...
