A rare look inside Beechwood, the Old House in HoDS
« on: November 04, 2012, 03:40:50 AM »
Saw this segment from Open House NYC on NBC in Los Angeles (where it's simply called Open House):  Square Feet: Go Inside a Gilded Age Mansion on the River  The residence for sale (now at a reduced price from it's nearly $2 million price tag) is 1 of 3 in the original Vanderlip mansion known as Beechwood in Briarcliff, NY.  The exterior of Beechwood looks pretty much as it did when it stood in as the Old House in HoDS, and it's within walking distance of the site of the original Scarbrough train station seen in Ep #1 of DS.  This clip gives you a look at, among other things, the original master bedroom, but sadly, the mansion's infamous staircase (where Frid's Barnabas beat Willie with his cane) was removed when the mansion was subdivided.

How cool.  i love the brief scene in hoDS where Stokes visits the deserted mansion and overnight it's become completely desolate again.

Too bad about the staircase.  People just love to destroy fine old things.
