i don't think it's really fair to "shame" four elderly actors for accepting a part in a movie. not unless you want to pay their bills.

and this conversation is starting to get hysterical.

Agree! But do you mean hysterical or hilarious? It's been near-hysterical, in the classic sense, for a while now.

I knew it would be a comedy; I just wish, reading that trailer description, it sounded like a funnier one. At the moment it sounds like the kind of thing the group of drag artists would perform at a DS convention.

And Ben Cross was in the terrible fourth Exorcist film...

Some of the film's score has been released!

(Sorry, sorry...) :P

General comment. Not a shocker but I'm still not buying into the argument that the reason the trailer has not been released is based on the fact that the score has not been completely finished. The legendary composer can't score a 30 second trailer?

Possibly the majority of trailers use scores from other films. The "X-Men: First Class" score keeps turning up in trailers, as does the score for "The Fountain." For years the score from "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" was used in movie trailers (like the one for Forrest Gump!)

It's also worth noting that WB is dropping this one week after The Avengers. Not a very confident move. They're hoping for second place, and that's likely been the case for some time.

None of this is meant to reflect on whether the FILM is any good, but it does indicate what the studio thinks the financial prospects of the property are.

I have 76 replies and 8 pages for the "I just saw the trailer" thread.   [snow_huh]

There are nine pages of comments on IMDB; the person who saw it is giving a lot of detail. I believe he's on the level.

Everyone's been calling this a comedy from script to post-production. I think it's time to make peace with that. Burton and Depp wanted to play in the world of Dark Shadows, but have no slavish loyalty to it. To hardcore fans it will likely play as an over the top spoof.

Totally agree that WB is scratching their heads on how to market the film; I called that out a few weeks ago: http://badassdigest.com/2012/01/20/is-barnabas-collins-stalling-in-this-new-dark-shadows-pic/

JD looks like he's twelve and playing dress-up.

That was exactly my thought - "Johnny Depp dressed as an 11 year-old dressed as Jonathan Frid playing Barnabas Collins."

I hear you, but that was indeed the setup in 2007...

Does anyone know if the banquet will include meeting Mr. Frid as he signs the photo, as it was in 2007?

Anybody? Nancy?

Nancy, did you happen to be over there this week? If not, I think your email account has been hacked...

otherwise i'm not sure why it's not being set in 1967 or for that matter the present. it's got to be a stylistic decision.

Took me a minute, but the story starts in 1752, jumps ahead two decades to when Barnabas has the curse put on him, then jumps to 1972. He's in the coffin for exactly 200 years. Not sure WHY that decision was made, but there's the math.

I quite like the idea of Barnabas being shocked and horrified at what's become of the once-proud Collins dynasty. He wakes up to find his family tree is a tangled neurotic mess! Poor fella.

I think "huge" is apt - looking at this cast on paper, it's a pretty impressive company thus far. By my count, 9 Oscar nominations among the main cast alone, to say nothing of the A-list craftspeople behind the camera. This thing is shaping up to be HUGE!
