Greystone on NCIS
« on: March 02, 2011, 06:44:46 AM »
If you watched tonight's NCIS ("One Last Score"), you saw the interior and grounds of Greystone Mansion during the last 15 minutes of the show.  Gibbs on the staircase!  JoBeth Williams--playing an amalgam of Leona Helmsley and Bernie Madoff-- by the fire in the living room, aka the Old House drawing room!

Nice closeups of the restored Minstrel Gallery (living room balcony), too.

I've never seen the house so totally empty; the explanation in the story was that the agency had taken possession of all its contents when the owner was convicted.

Ha ha ha! I thought it looked familiar--I haven't seen HoDS in ages, I'm afraid. Somehow it seemed much bigger last night than in the movie, but I guess that was because it was empty of furniture.

I wonder if that was really Greystoke that the team was looking at via Google Earth (or whatever, maybe the navy's own special edition of same). I thought the whole sequence was beautifully photographed and the house shown to great advantage.

I've never seen the house so totally empty either. And who knew that hiding place was there in the living room? I've never seen it used in any other TV show/movie, and I'm surprised they didn't use it in the '91 DS. It would have been a perfect place to hide some secret(s). But then, maybe they might have used it had the show continued...

Thanks so much for the video link.  [snow_smiley]

A larger "secret bar" was opened in one of the paneled offices while Bette and I were there and I bet there are lots of those, lol.

I'm guessing you meant the '91 series, DarkLady.  [snow_smiley]

The scriptwriter tweeted that it was "Too expensive to dress Greystone with furniture. I thought we could use it if I could come up with a reason it's empty"

And "I had more visitors on-set when we were at Greystone Mansion than any other day I've been on the show. Not easy to get inside."

Greystone was used for the 1991 series, not HODS.  HODS was shot at Lyndhurst in NY. [snow_wink]

I believe it is. The overhead shot looks like the shots that were shown on The Amazing Race back in December:

It does look like NCIS did some "enhancing," though, like adding clouds and removing a whole lot of trees and bushes...

The NCIS picture looks like it is a negative and what you call clouds are the trees

You're exactly right. And a negative image seems strange at first, but perhaps not. Ziva and Gibbs were using a laptop to monitor the woman's ankle bracelet, so I wonder if it's possible that even in real life such surveillance would show the movement of the bracelet against a negative image because it provides better readability? Or perhaps it was simply a decision made by the show's visual effects department because it was too hard to see the movement against the normal image.

The image looked odd, but I couldn't quite figure out why. Thanks for clearing it up.  [snow_smiley]

The NCIS image looks something like infrared.

I'll bet it is! Infrared sounds more like NCIS spy stuff.

They may have indeed been trying to simulate infrared.  [snow_wink]

Here's the same image if one uses imaging software to negative image it:

As LdyAnne suspected, it looks normal.
