Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Re:Okay.....Why am I missing?
« on: April 04, 2003, 06:01:55 PM »
When I first saw 1 guest and 1 cousin listed, and that being MB, I assumed it was in the middle of some new change and ignored it.

But now it's showing 1 guest and 1 cousin and that's RobinV and I'm still missing.

If I've been kicked out of Paradise someone forgot to change the locks, cause I'm still here.

Am I dead.... ???

Here's the answer, Rainey and Bette-- only persons belonging to a specific membergroup are showing up right now and won't til the kinks are written out of the new color mod.  These are the 2 Administrators, the Global Moderator, our Archivist (Brian), the Columnists (RobinV and Luciaphil), and our DSF Supporter (WidowsHill).  The mod isn't working yet for the specific posting levels, such as Senior poster, etc.  In time, I'm sure it will again. :D

« on: April 04, 2003, 05:48:13 PM »
I am having the same problem.  I am trying to edit my profile, but when I put in my password it tells me there is an error.

Hi Anubis,

This is the error that was logged on each of those attempts: "You haven't entered your current Password. You have to enter your current Password to make any changes to your Profile."  For added security, a pw is now required in order to make changes to your profile.  It has to be entered into the Required Info section.  If you're typing it in the area further down on your profile page in which you're asked to type it twice, this is the area used for changing your password only, but the old one has to be entered in the top section no matter what edit you're making.

Also, I have a picture I want to use in my profile.  How do I add that? Thanks

To add any picture to your profile it has to be stored online-- in your own space, in someone else's space that has given you permission to link to it, or in dsboards space.  Then its URL is linked to your profile either by using YaBB image code if it's for your signature, or if it's for your avatar by checking the box in your profile next to "I have my own pic" and then entering the URL in the space that follows it; the maximum size allowed for an avatar image is 65 x 68 pixels.

Hope this helped!

Hiya Bette! [hello]

Oh, Excellent!!!  A perfect advisory/slogan for this forum if I ever heard one!!....Some Wackiness May Ensue!!! [lghy]

Can we get a Smiley with a hard hat, carrying that on a signpost?

rainey.....LMAO  ;)

LOL!  The domain addy still brings up the full page message that says, (Please don't be surprised by anything you might see or that might happen while you're there. [wink2]) but we can put a hard hat on winky like this if you'd like.

;)

MB is better qualified (MUCH better) to answer this question, and I don't even know if this'll do it.  Anyway, as of yesterday he was back to working on the color display for the different membergroups and posting groups but the mod wasn't working at all like it did with the old version.  If anyone can figure it out, he can, but in the meantime some forum wackiness may ensue.

The opposite of Matriarch is Patriarch, Pepe. Use of the term "Master" on the other hand,.....well....that's a whole different topic, isn't it?....especially if it depends on the sex of the poster?  [smrtasb]

Unfortunately, it was DS that paired those terms.  Liz was the matriarch of Collinwood, and various Collins men over the centuries set their sights on becoming its master.

Luciaphil's calculations came up for me in several different attempts.  You just have to be a little creative in narrowing down your search (I discovered she uses the word god a lot, as in "Oh God", "godawful", "what in the name of God were they thinking?"... ;)) but don't ignore the Max Age setting.

Current Talk '03 I / Re:Story Problems
« on: April 02, 2003, 05:01:36 PM »
This first one doesn't bother me too much, given all of the suspension of disbelief needed in these stories, I find this quite acceptable.  However, the I Ching presumably isn't meant as a means of time travel.  When Barnabas used it, he thought he would be contacting Quentin's spirit.  He didn't know he would travel in time.

Even if the hexagram of change does mean a change of time, it wouldn't necessarily mean the same time.  Yet Barnabas and Julia both go back to 1897.  Since they went "back" in time, why does Petofi assume he'll go forward?  And why necessarily to 1969?  Yet both Charles in his attempt and then Petofi do, indeed, go to 1969.

I absolutely agree that it was a huge stretch to use a divination tool that's thousands of years old as a means of time traveling.  But I thought Professor Stokes' explanation that 1897 was somehow running parallel with his present plugged the hole about characters and their letters going back and forth to those times at will (hmmm, though I guess they'd actually be going sideways?).  It wasn't a tight explanation, but I figure they at least gave it a shot.

Now, I'm sure he still had formidable powers without it, but why are Kitty and Charles so afraid when he holds out the hand and asks if they remember what it can do.  They could never have known the Hand.

Yeah, when Quentofi put his gnarly hand in front of Kitty's face and asked if she remembered it, I though she should've said, "Uh.... no."

The clock is different for me with nearly every page change.  It is too weird!

if the original 'creator'? of a topic wanted to change the Title of the Subject...could this be done by the 'creator' (sorry, don't know what other word, perhaps originator?)

Author

Love love love the new title!

Once the originator changed the topic, if someone replied, it goes to NEW title, not yours (now it reads dom Rules, DOGS(lol on that one!) and Dom Rules again).

Not necessarily, because a new post will take on the title of the message it's directly responding to.  So if you were to reply directly to one of the messages that still has Dogs as its title (by quoting one of those posts), the title of the new post would read Re: Dogs.

But, you know, changing God to Matriach (or Master, depending on the sex of the poster) is an idea...

I like Goddess, but that's just me.  ;)

I'll have to keep an eye out for this one when it's rebroadcast. Might be useful for my class.

I'll throw in a tape for you (an advantage to being 3 hours behind the other coast).

If anyone had told me I could have this much fun teaching a course, I would've done it ages ago.  :)

I'd kill to take that course.  :D

He also appears in a 2nd UPS commercial that debuted over the weekend:

Now that was really bizarre.

All right...what did I do wrong with the quote?

When you trimmed out your part of the quote, this was left in:
Code: [Select]
[quote author=Patti link=board=7;threadid=3047;start=0#msg31003 date=1049146284]
so a closing quote tag got added to the end after it was submitted, but all that's been modified out.[/quote]

Umm, thanks for sharing. [wink2]

LOL!  I'm pretty sure Gothick is also Italian familiar.  :)

There's also a YaBB Italian team.  Doesn't cliccate qui sound way better than "click here"?  :D
